For those who considered an FJ. Thank god we bought Jeeps!
Yes, but with twin differentials that are guaranteed to explode? Or a body that will disintegrate in short order? Thats not getting a bad one, thats getting a badly designed/ engineered vehicle.
Every time I get into my Jk I wonder if the damn thing is gonna start or when is it gonna stall or leave me stranded? Chrysler product you know.
I chose the JK over the FJ cruiser because of the looks and the 4 doors. Plus I wanted to buy American this time. I knew I was probably going to have to give up reliablity and overall fit and finish quality.
Well the fit and finish quality is obviously less in the JK, now I'm just waiting for the stall to happen.

But as far as the thread goes... I can't believe I actually built an FJ on Toy's website while shopping jeep.
I fail to see any insecurity, however, I have only been aware of this forum for a few months now, and am impressed by the level of maturity. But with this sweeping generalization, please share why you are so sour if you don't mind. You seem to bash DC and Jeep all over this forum.

I hate alot of things, but I dont feel the need to post a thread about everything I hate either.
Have you ever been on the trail with them? I bet they would surprise you what the FJ can do.
I didnt like trackers either, but they do damn good on the trail. It changed my mind. that being said. I would never own one myself.

I have always owned at least one Toyota in the family. I am always impressed with how "value engineered" they are, meaning light duty. Fine for the intended purpose, but there isn't a lot of additional margin in their design. The one exception was the Land Cruiser. I keep buying them though, primarily due to reliability. Have to admit I like my Toyota....... but I love my Jeep.
I looked at them and joined a site devoted to the FJ. I found out that if a problem was brought in to the dealer they were to act as if this was the first time they had seen the problem....
That worked until the internet forums caught up with them and several JK owners nailed them on their lies.
That was enough for me and I went with Wrangler. The Toyota was more powerful but who needs a company that lies?
The FJ is most certainly capable and drives very nice. My reason for going with a 4x4 was to get the most capable vehicle factory built and the Rubicon fit the bill.
The FJ has windshields that break very easily, they have to be ordered from Japan and cost over $1500 each. I talked with peopled who were on their 3rd windshield in less than 6k miles. Their diffs are failing at a high rate. The auto tranys are getting roached if you run them in mud where it is slow going and this happens due to them not having trans coolers. The paint chips easily to the point some become specaled with white showing through the outer color coat. The list of things go further but that is enough. Toyota's have to mods with good off road tires since they only have street tires unless you get a TURD which just has A/Ts and being from the midwest we need to sling MUD which the A/T suck at. The FJ owner only gets one locker and we get two lockers. So
I don't know about any one else but I have what I was looking for in a 4x4 - JEEP Rubicon rocks...

Look, the key to remember is that ALL vehicle manufacturers have problems that they have to correct. Why? Because people built them. People make mistakes. Having said that, it is also good business to put extensive quality processes and skilled workers in place. Personally, I like the look of the FJ. However, if you want something that looks great and is also proven to be extremely strong offroad then you have to go with the Jeep. The FJ simply doesn't have a track record to prove the offroad-ability; the Jeep does. Perhaps there will be a few issues to iron out with the new V6 engine and some of the other mods, but all in all, the core suspension is largely the same. Any changes were obviously improved upon from earlier models.
Eh, got nothing against Toyota, Nissan, Ford, Chevy, etc. But you choose based upon track record and proven performance ... Jeep! Since 1941!
If you needed to tow 10,000 pounds on a regular basis, and Toyota came out with a 2500 desiel truck, would you buy one? I'd hope not. Stick with something with a proven track record ...

A friend of mine got one. I'd never buy one, but it's pretty nice. It definitely got more concept car feeling.
FJ Cruisers are made by Hino Motors (the leading producer of medium and heavy-duty diesel trucks in Japan) and built in Hamura City, Japan. They are only available in U.S. and not available in Japan. No plans of seling FJ Cruisers in Japan. On the other hand, Jeeps incl. JK are sold in Japan.
If I remember correct, Toyota was supposed to produce only about 50,000 FJ Cruisers as "boutique vehicle". It is possible the production will be discontinued in few years.
