Default Water Leak - soft top

I've got a 4dr soft top. When I wash it at a car wash with a high pressure sprayer and spray at the top of the window for too long water will drip from my top right above the mirror. I'm thinking it's just getting in under the seal, it won't do it when it's raining, just washing it some of the time.

But yesterday we had a very hard rain, not for long, but a good amount of water. After it had stopped, right after i noticed water dripping from my door right above the door handle on the inside, a pretty good drip. I stopped and opened the door and it looked like it was running in between the gasket and where the door closes against the top. This was quite a bit of water. Can't figure exactly how it was getting in between.

Then today we had another good rain, probably for close to an hour. Very hard rain. After it quit I went to town. Did not notice any water in the jeep at all. Until, after dinner I was leaving the restaurant and put on my seat belt. My seat belt was soaked. Where would the water be coming from? The top was dry on the inside, the padding on the roll bars was dry. It was dark so i couldn't see anything but will check in the morning. It's so humid it shouldn't dry out tonight.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Exact same leak location (driver and passenger door) over inner door handles. Good amount of water.

Took it to the dealer, we played around with it a bit, and found out exactly where it's leaking. There is a place on the frame (actually the black bolt-on extra guard on the frame, over the door) where the gasket is in two pieces pushed together. It forms a vertical seam.

Put some silicone into the seam, above and below it as well. Close down the soft top and close the doors. Let it sit all night.

Viola. That did the trick on the driver's side. I had to put a bit more silicone on the passenger door site, but that resolved there as well.

Here you go. Not too pretty when you look up close, but it got the job done.

I also filled in the open space in the plastic strut with silicone as well.
From the side...

From the bottom...

You ought to send those pics to DC and show them what junk Jeep is turning out these days.

I'm glad it worked for you, but thats just pathetic that it comes down to that.

Daimler Chrysler Jeep should be embarassed.

Thanks for the pictures. That does not look that good like you said. I'm going to wait for a better fix hopfull from Jeep. Mine sits in a garage most of the time, even at work unless out running around.

Don't you folks talk bad about my Jeep. All of us look like crap factories from the inside, all that matters is that we look pretty on the outside.
