Waterproof storage bin?

Default Waterproof storage bin?

I have this crazy idea of keeping the top off this summer. Obviously, rain will be an occassional issue, here in NE, but I plan on getting some neoprene seat covers, and possibly removing the carpet (altogether).

One issue I would love to address is the storage bin in the rear. Does anybody have any possible idea as to how to waterproof it? I'm not looking for a "Remove the drain plug" solution, but something a little more substantial.

My thought was perhaps getting the Tuffy Rear cover, and maybe lining the edges with rubber seals? Anybody think of anything better?

I would think that after 1 rain storm it would get old for you. Also, I don't think it would be good for the jeep to pretty much be rained on all the time. I'd think that after awhile it would take it's toll on electronics.

Well, i would definitely plan on putting the top up for rain storms I know about, but for the occassional flash storm, I'd obviously be in a bit of trouble.

The thing is, my work is about a 15 minute drive away... so taking the top up and down every time I drive to work would be miserable. I'd rather just have top down if I can.

The interior wouldn't be a big deal at all. Neoprene seat covers = waterproof.... no carpet is fine... and the electronics should be able to get a splash on them... I mean, the only real worry is the radio. Everything else is pretty much tucked up and away.

Just get the rear deck duster for $100, I love the thing, and get a bikini top for a quick install on a rainy day.

Any links? How about pictures? Does the rear duster completely seal off the rear??? How does it install? Did you remove, or just tumble the rear seat down?

Default Storage bins

Rubbermaid Action Packers from Amazon.com. I got all 4 sizes 8gal,24gal,35gal, 48 gal for $225 delivered. The 48 is perfect size trunk fits behind the seats up(unlimited) and the duster deck cover will cover it perfectly. pics to follow. Seem very durable, im 185 and stood on them, solid!

The rear seat folds down and there is a strap to keep it from flipping up. I dont have any pictures of mine but there are plenty of pictures online or on bestops site. I have to say I like having it. It is also suppose to increase mpg too, just because it decreases the wind turbulance with the tailgate, etc. I dont imagine that equals much but it is mentioned.

The other day I had to pick the kids up from school. I just peeled it back to the roll bar, flipped the seat up and it was ready to go.

It does require the soft top rear window bar. Not sure if you can make it work without it.????

I may or may not get the windjammer to go with it. It's only about $80 I think. I dont think it is that necessary. There is only a slight breeze in the back of your head without it. A little rain spray may blow in, I dont really know.

I also have the Mopar cover for if you are parked at work or cant pull it in at night. It is the one that covers the cab only.

Now the question becomes how do I afford all this?!

Thanks hunter! It looks like a good mod, solution, but I was actually aiming towards retaining the stock storage bin and using that. I may have to pick up some of those, though, for other things!
