What to do if...
Ride a plane/bus/train up and drive the Jeep back? How about splitting the cost with your folks for a round trip and let them drive it down, and they take a plane/bus/train back. Meanwhile they can enjoy a nice vacation for their trouble.
I hopped a plane to Atlanta, the salesman picked me up, 1 1/2 hours later I'm on the road to Richmond. $140.00 for plane ticket, $3100.00 off sticker, paid myself $300.00 an hour to drive back, I've never enjoyed a drive more!

that all SOUNDS good, but I have this car in Florida I'd like to trade in.....grrrrI might have to suck it up and order an 09....but that too has its issues.....09s could have issues that 08 didn't have, or it could have less issues.....
So get in the car and drive to NJ..... i just drove from orlando to NYC in my friends porche911 turbo, rough ride but not that bad, have to drive his M5 to miami... if you really wanted it you'd be on the road already.... the drive isnt that bad make a weekend out of it, stop in NC or Myrtle for a day enjoy your new jeep...
Then I guess our point is if you are no where near having the money for your jeep anytime soon, what does it matter if there is one in NJ???? Unless you are going to have the money for your jeep sometime within the month or so that one will be long gone. The issue you are describing and asking our advice on is an issue for someone who is ready and able to buy the jeep sitting in NJ immediately.
Very unlikely any dealer is going to ship 800+ miles. Most dealers have associations with other dealers within a certain distance, so I wouldn't count on your jeep being shipped to you from New Jersey.
Going to pick it up seems to be one of your only options. Sell your car locally, and forget the trade in, or call the dealership with your jeep, and maybe they'll work with you. They may be willing to give you a quote based on an appraisal in your local area (From an appraisal company...).
But, keep in mind, it's very tough to find any EXACT vehicle on the lot, especially when you start going crazy with options. What is your desired configuration???
Chances are, you wont miss the options you wanted, so you may even find a Jeep locally that'll fit the bill. Not exactly, but you win some and lose some battles.
Your only other option is making an order.
