Default Who Now wishes they got a Rubicon!

Ive seen a lot of posts, and people are now discovering 4x4ing, and lots of stuff like that.

And everyone wants a Rubi now because of that! I just wish we got a rubi, just for the tires and Lockers. Lockers would help a lot because of the off-roading we do.

I could have bought either and went with the X as I will be adding additional equipment to make it better that I want. That makes it my Jeep in my eyes. Both models were in stock.

Plus, it was a lot cheaper.

Totally happy with my Sahara, and think it looks the best of all the models (stock, at least). It wasn't a money thing for me - the almost-fully-optioned Sahara I got cost just $1-2K under what a similar Rubi would've cost... so it only would've cost me about $20-35 bucks more per monthly payment... it's just that I know I won't need all that capability, so why pay for it, and haul around the extra crawling hardware and its weight, everyday, that I'll never use? (That's a whole .02 mpg difference!).

All said, once I get some money saved, get the wife to agree to let me SPEND it, and then throw on a nice lift with some bigger wheels, I'll be able to handle the worst terrain that Connecticut has to offer. As it is now, I'm able to comfortable drive through anything I've been ballsy enough to attempt.

Having said all of the above, if I lived in a different part of the country (rockier terrain) I think I would've sprung for the Rubi... but I don't, so I didn't.

Not knocking anyone with a Rubi (they're great rigs) but I'm very happy with my plain old X. It's more capable than the Cherokee I've been used to driving, and I've gone to some extraordinary places with that.

I did remove the X logo though. Not ashamed of what I bought, but it's uglier than the Miami Vice-esque "Sport" logo of old, IMHO.

i love my X. personally, sahara would have been a pointless upgrade as it doesn't offer any increased capability for the added premium in price. rubicon had a few too many things i didn't need and as thusly didn't want to pay for - YES seats, upgraded stereo, 32" tires, etc...

also, i've read and heard of a few too many problems with the electronic disconnect. if i'd have waited a few weeks to order my X, i could have gotten the electronic swaybar disco AND the rear locker for an extra $1350 - i chose not to. the only other thing i'd have been getting extra with the rubicon is a modified suspension and a more rockcrawl-suitable transfer case....

what i've learned is this:

offroading ! = rubicon (unequal to)

offroading = JEEP

in my opinion, if you're unhappy with your current setup, go deliver some newspapers til you've got enough cash to pitch in on some upgrades.

as for the extra $4000 (rubicon premium over X)......................nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Finally found my silver rubi tonight. Picking it up monday. I am excited to say the least. Now I just need to cancel my order. The only options I did not get were the side air bags and the soft top. I can live with that.

I'm glad I got the Rubi. The initial costs didn't alarm my wife as much as extra parts coming through the mail would have. It has handled speed bumps and curbs I bet most of you wouldn't have attempted with your X's
