Why the 2 door?
I have read through all of the posts for the "why the unlimited" thread and can't help but think to myself why the 2 door?
I am not trying to be an a-hole as the original poster of the other thread wasn't, it is simply a valid question for me. It seems to me that all JK's are quite capable, so if you could have more room for family, friends and gear why wouldn't you buy the unlimited? On top of the room, it also tows more and I am sure will go through snow better. With all of this being said, are they that much better off road and going through tight spaces, or is it just that they were originally built as two doors, so they should never be changed?

and i'm not a soccer mom so i don't have a 4 dr hahahaha
Yup, I'm a single guy so its normally just me in the jeep. I enjoy the fact I can fit it anywhere(I live in baltimore city where parking is a pita). I really do not have the need to tow more than 2k. Last reason is they look better than the 4drs closer to stock. I really don't want a huge lift. I want 33s and 2.5 inches. If I had a 4dr it would need a big lift and at least 35s.

My reasoning was that I'm single, have no kids and rarely need to transport more than 3 others at a time. I also simply don't like the looks of the 4 doors as much as the 2 doors. Also, the fact that the motor is less than ideal anyway, and the extra length/doors add what is unnecessary (for me) weight.
I just find the 4 doors awkward looking. I think they can look very nice, dont get me wrong. But I prefer the classic 2 doors of a Jeep.
From a performance/off road perspective I don't really know how much advantage the 2 door has. While it is less prone to bottoming out, the shorter wheel base can hinder performance in comparison to the longer in certain circumstances.

For the same reason some people buy a 2dr car. I'm not going to buy a Ram 15 passenger van instead of a Caravan bc it can haul more gear or people. Sure both vans can get to point b and park.... just not as easy as the smaller one. Everyones needs are different. I chose the 2dr because the shorter wheel base is much easier to navigate on the trails and in the city.
They are both Jeeps....but different strokes for different folks. If there was a four door Mustang with almost as much speed as the 2dr, some would still buy the four door bc it's new and different or they need the room etc. I know bigger is better... just not on the switchbacks.

Getting a two door was a no brainer for me; didn't give it a second thought. When it was time to get a new vehicle (giving the old one to my 16 year old), I either wanted a Mini Cooper or a Subaru WRX (both in coupe). After much consideration I opted for the Jeep, and I'm very satisfied with that decision. Even though I have three kids & a wife, 95% of the time I'm the sole occupant in the Jeep. My back seat sits in a corner of the house most all of the time.
As stated above, the two door is more traditional, lighter in weight, shorter wheel base, more maneuverable, and more attractive (imo). I'm not saying either is better than the other as obviously each has its own +/-. To me, I guess interior room was not a big deciding factor. Compared to my last car, a '95 Subaru Impreza with 160K miles on it, the Jeep has ample space and rides like a Cadillac, lol.

I should add that I traded in a Chevy Avalanche on my Jeep, so I am finding the Jeep to be quite small and nimble. I am also suprised to find that my wifes 2009 Chevy Malibu is actually LONGER than my Unlimited Jeep. It is also odd that the unlimited is almost 2 feet longer than the 2 door, but the weight difference is only 378 pounds and the 2 door is actually TALLER than the four door and they are about the same width.
I truly love the 2 door and would have bought one YEARS ago, but due to the size it was never an option for me.
