Will JK prices continue to drop?
I'm currently shopping for my new JK and I'm hesitant to pull the trigger hoping prices will continue to drop. It's hard to imagine with the unstable economy and the government unwilling to step in and bailout the auto industry that prices won't continue to slide on new JK's. I'm in no rush but I would like to have my rig for Jeep Safari in April. Unless something break immediately I will at least wait until '09. Any thoughts or insight?
It's a gamble. But, you could be chasing this for a real long time. I say go to a dealership. Make a deal and if you like it enough go for it. Ask yourself a question, "if I wait for a year to save an unknown amount of money will it be worth it?"
I'm not sure, but I think the end of the year plus with it being winter is the best time to buy a Wrangler.

I say you want it bad enough and can afford it whats stopping you... have them throw some extras in if the price is a little higher than you expect... most dealerships are trying anything to get some money in their pockets... With the old inventory prices will be lower once that inventory is gone in my opinion the price of the wranglers will start going back up come late winter early spring.

I find it hard to imagine prices will go much lower. There may be incentive packages to get rid of '08 models now that the '09's are shipping, but I just can't see how the prices will go much lower.
If you continue with your strategy, I'm not sure you will be saving anything. If you want a good deal:
1) have max price you are not willing to negotiate above - ever try negotiating with a 4 year old? Not much difference with a sales person. Tell them don't ask. With respect of course.
2) visit the dealer the last Monday/Tuesday of the month - dealers quota is on the line and the weekends are full to foot traffic. Beginning of the week is a slow time for dealers.
3) End of day - shopping at closing time works in your favor. They will be eager to "get it done"
You are actually in one of the best buying position to get a deal you are happy with. 2009 models are rolling in so dealers will be looking to get rid of their '08 and its a holiday period when most people don't purchase high price items like autos and homes. The right strategy at the right time will get you the best deal.
Have you tried an Internet price quote? I did this for my Tacoma and was shocked at the price I got it for.

I agree. You're seeing signs of auto manufacturers running into the bottom now as Toyota has started asking their suppliers to cut their prices. This will have a snowball affect and deflation will increase. Deflation in a sustained fashion is not good.
Waiting for a couple of other dealers quotes before I pull the trigger.
