I've given out my cell to several companies I shop with regularly and don't get any telemarketing calls. Useful for rewards programs or to save a mailing address, etc. Maybe it's different with a landline but then again, how many actually still have a landline these days.

I have a Google Voice number. That's what I give any business that asks. Through that I can filter which calls are forwarded to ring my cell phone. And, if I miss calls, GV will record their message, text me that I missed the message, and e-mail me a transcription of the message. GV is free--highly recommend if you need to maintain contact with businesses but want to keep your privacy. BTW: Agree, I seriously doubt that is company policy--or even that store's. Probably a new guy just trying to do what he thinks is his job.

I know Lowe's or home depot will. Auto zone or oriellys will also. But you don't have to give it or at least at Lowe's. Most of the time they just type in a regular number but they aren't tracking your ass all over the place

Actually I was wrong. I have store cards for most places. This would mean I'm already in the system. NO I do not get any calls from these stores ... Or any store for that matter.

Its all for warranty. For auto parts stores atleast. Used to work at our local vatozone and we kept it in the system in case we needed to go back to it later. And yes, even bolts have a warranty!
