Jeeps and Beach
Great thread, and GREAT site. Relative newbie here, 07 X 2dr 6spd. Coincidentally going to OBX in 2 weeks. I have some limited experience off road, but NONE on the beach. This has been a VERY enlightening thread. I have the Goodyear Wranglers that it came with, 245/75 16's. So basically, if I use common sense, air down to 10 psi and turn off the ESP I should be good to go? I'm a little nervous. The only other time I was on the beach in a truck was about 30 years ago. A friend had a 60's vintage Ford 1/2 ton P/U. We drove to the beach, got out, locked the hubs, got back in drove about 60 feet into the sand, and sunk down to the frame! Fortunately there was a front end loader replacing sand from storm erosion (happens a LOT in Jersey). The guy driving the loader laughed his butt off at our predicament, but was nice enough to pull us out.
Any other hints to avoid getting stuck ? Or for that matter, any particularly good beaches to drive on?
Man, this forum was a great find !!

Love OBX. Was there a couple of years ago. Played in the sand on the north end and never got stuck. That was with the stock SRAs. Aired down to about 18 I think. Actually drove to the furthest point possible where the big poles were in the sand. I think it might have been the VA state line. Man I wanna go back.
I take my completely stock 07 Sahara unlimited out on Grayton Beach a couple times a week. Very soft powdery white sand. I never air down. Just 4lo and esp off. Slowed down a few times, but never bogged down.
