Nope. Can't say I've ever seen any beaches where driving on them is possible and allowed at the same time.

When I think of beach driving, I think of the Texas coast where I could drive for miles and miles on the sandy beach.

Nothing like that in Maine.

From the ones I know I can count the sandy beaches in ME on 2 fingers. Cant drive on either. Most of the coast is rock.

You can drive on a sand bar in Bar Harbor on low tide. I forgot the name of the road, but it is the same one that the whale watch boats and dock is located. If you leave the dock and head away from Bar Harbor, it is halfway up on the right. Turn right and head downhill towards the beach. I don't think you can see it at this time of the year. Summertime you can drive out to the island which is part of Acadia National Park.

Based on Google Maps that looks like Bridge St takes you out to Bar Island.

Is this something that is recommended and worthwhile? Legal and require any permits? We are heading up there this July with the rv and jeep. Had a blast down the obx last summer and we may head back again this year. I'm not expecting anything like that up in Maine though.

It's fun to go out there. You can park and then walk the island. Just make sure you leave before the tide comes back in, otherwise you will have 12 hours on the island

This link should take you to a picture of the bar. I don't know if requires permission of some kind.
What you see is the whole thing.

I'm assuming that is bar harbor I'm looking at in the pic? What is behind the camera in this picture? Looks pretty cool.
