Just south of Avon and parts of Cape Hatteras lighthouse area! My family would spend a week down there during Memorial Day weekend. Try North of Naggs Head too, its where all the wild horses are.

City life or Seclusion??
Actually there is wild horses all over the OBX from north HWY 12 to South past Harkers Island and Cape Lookout. But My fav is Buxton and Frisco on Hatteras Island. Ramp 49 tends to be closed pretty often these days due to birds nesting. However, there are plenty of other ramps to access the beaches. Frisco is great for the kiddos because of the sand bars. Just be Shark concious. Keep in mind these "towns" are small and offer a secluded feel to them. They have a handfull of resturants and a Mini Golf/ arcade place. And That's about it. However, If more shopping and city life is what you want stick closer to the main land- Rodanthe, Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, ect. You also might want to try out some kite boarding while you're down. OBX is my home away from home!! Hope this helps-

We go down every year. I hear up north is great at the end of 12 but I have never been up that way. We go down as a family every year and stay in Rodanthe, Salvo, Waves. The beaches between Salvo and Avon are great and not crowded and than once you get down towards Buxton. You need to watch now though since some of the beaches are closed. You can follow what areas are closed by this link http://www.preservebeachaccess.org/l...aysaccess.html. This is updated weekly. We go in one more month

We go there every year as well, have a house in Corolla. The beaches in Corolla are great, wild horses, etc. West side of the beach has some dunes and minor trails, but most of that is private property. Be there Memorial Day weekend - not so crowded yet

Carova Beach NC
We are going down to Carova Beach NC. Memorial week.
You go to Carolla, where the hard top road ends and turn right out onto the 4x4 only beach.
You have to drive several miles up the beach to get to it.
It's a house that is literally right on the beach facing the ocean.
We are going to drive the Rubicon down there.
My wife will be fussing about the noise from the 37" Mud grapplers and the new MBRP offroad exhaust. That's all music to my ears.
I can't wait to get down there and drop the top and cruise the beach!
I just hope we can get everything packed into it.
My wife tries to take the whole house with her.
