I hate telling this story but because misery loves company, here it is.
I hydrolocked my JK in May 2007.
Speed is what killed me... under load I ended up breaking a rod which punched a hole in the block.
I tried my insurance and the dealer, just in case I could get it paid somehow. No luck.
Who knows though maybe your insurance coverage is more inclusive. All I could do was shell out the cash and move on... around any significant bodies of water in my path.

 Wow! At least you have some cool looking wall-decorations now . Did you replace the engine with the v6? or did you do an upgrade??? How much was the full swap?

A lot of people seem to be doing the hemi swap. I think if i needed to swap, i'd go for a nice 4.0 inline 6.... just to be a little different...

Well we had JUST moved from Wyoming to Montana and so we went with the dealer replacement. I wish we could have done the Hemi swap but we just didn't have the funds. It was about $4200 with labor for a stock replacement.

And yes the rods are the only things we saved, to hang up in the garage as some sort of momento.

yeah, thats what i like to hear, someone thinking about dropping the old inline 4.0 in it. But if you do that, i sure hope you plan to stroke it to 4.7L at some point. that would be a lot of fun.

That sucks, cool pictures though.

Don't forget to reward your insurance company by dumping them. Insurance has come up a few times lately. Except for a few unlucky places there is substantial competition. It's really not that inconvenient to switch to a new carrier.

It was said before. I think Dan from Burnsville was offering the 3.8l V6's free for pickup, he ahd so many lying around. At least call him and see what he's got, worth a rental car ride out to pickup a new engine. Heck, I'm in DC and considering heading out there with my Motorcycle trailer and hauling one or two back if that was the case. It would be some easy insurance if I decided to deep water diving!

I used to live close to them. And most of my family lives in the northern suburbs of Minneapolis. I'm considering having one of them pick up and store one for me until they drive down to visit me sometime.

... That is if it's really free, or close to free.
