Project-JK Rubicon Run in a Day
After finishing up our Niagara Rim run, Trail Bud decided to head up to Tahoe with us so that we do the Rubicon as well. Of course, the Rubicon is typically a trail that most people do as an overnight trip but, being that time was limited for us, the plan was to try and run the entire length of it in a day. And, that's exactly what we did. Taking our time, stopping to take pics/video and just relaxing in the beauty of the Desolation Wilderness, it took us just about 8.5 hours from start to finish and if you're interested, here are a pics from our Rubicon run in a day.
When we got to the Loon Lake trailhead, we found ourselves at the back of a large group of european 2-door Sport JK's that were completely bone stock. In other words, they had no lockers, no rocker guards, no lift and still running street tires. Apparently, they were going to be lead through the Rubicon by the Jeep Jamboree USA....

After talking to one of the American trail guides, we were told that they expected it would take about 11 hours to get these JK's to Rubicon Springs and that if we didn't want to get stuck behind them, we had better make our move up front now. And, that's exactly what we did....

Parked atop the Granite Bowl taking in the awesome view before making our way across....

Slowly making our way up the other side of the bowl....

For those of you who have never been on the Rubicon, finding your way across the Granite Bowl can be tricky but there are reflective bots dots affixed to the glacier carved stone face to help you find your way....

Trail Bud climbing his way up one of several ledges on the opposite side of the bowl....

At the Wentworth Springs & Rubicon Trail Junction....

Flexing our way through a narrow tippy section of trail....

Trail Bud putting his EVO coilovers to good use as he walks down this boulder piles with ease....

One of the things I love about the Rubicon are all the big ass rocks it has strewn along the entire length of the trail....

Making a stop over at the Little Sluice to have a snack and check out the crazy terrain that people actually try and crawl through....

Back on the trail and on our way to Buck Island Lake....

Here we are taking some fun lines on our way down....

Dropping off a ledge that was bit steeper than I was expecting....

Flexing out on some more boulders on our way to Buck Island Lake....

WOLette working her way down the Big Sluice....

Trail Bud following closely behind....

With full width axles and a 4-door JK, the Big Sluice was a tight squeeze....

In fact, Trail Bud took his very first body damage on this rock - but, i was only a flesh wound....

Coming off the last set of boulders....

Making our way across the Rubicon Bridge....

Chillin out over on the slabs at Rubicon Springs....

Is that dinner I see coming our way....

Working your way up Cadilac Hill, bigass tires and a lot of flex sure makes the V-notch easier to do....

Shot of Trail Bud from behind going up the V-Notch....

A final shot on top of Cadilac Hill before heading down to Tahoe....
