Rovers Blow
Any vehicle can get stuck under the right conditions. Many experienced off roaders can take the same vehicle over and through sections that look impossible to the novice. Rovers, Toyota's, and Jeeps can all get stuck or at least should sometimes if you are challenging their abilities and yours. Not sure I understand your disdain for Rovers.
I'm going back to the days when gas stations had parts for your 4X4
We use to wheel in an international scout , friend had a land cruiser another one had a cj and bronco.
if you needed points, cap rotor, the gas station had it, back then it didn't take much to get back on the road again.
Today you best wheel with a friend because now if your computer or anything takes a dump
your stuck, today vehicles just plain SUCK in comparison except for the creature comforts.
OH not to many LR in those days

I've owned several Land Rovers, in fact, I use to work for them. I wouldn't say they are bad off-road. Quite the contrary, they are pretty tough vehicles. I competed in Land Rover TReK (a take off on the Camel Trophy) I've had 3 D-90's and and a handful of Discoverys. I loved my Defenders, but the last one didn't really work once my wife and I had our first child. I bought a ex-TReK Discovery, and drove that until this past year.l I went to visit my brother out in Lake Tahoe and we happened on the Jeep launch for the new Wrangler. Turns out I knew one of the people at the launch that I had met at a Land Rover launch (for the LR3). He kind let us have our run of things. Once I saw the new Wrangler, I knew it was the vehicle I needed to get my convertible off-roader back. My 4-door Rubi is much more road friendly than the D-90. After taking a long trip in the Defender, you'd pay for it the next day. Off-road the Defender is hard to beat, but the Jeep is just comfortable, versatile, and downright does everything well.

nice rovers Will. to the original post, the DII's (except the 04's) don't have the factory center diff lock. without locking the diff, getting stuck in something minor is liable to happen.

damn....Im in love with the defender....fell in love with it in Ireland....when you body armor em up they are great. I looked at them before i got a jeep, could find them used for around 30 but for a 8 or 10 year used truck id rather buy brand new for 30
I think one of the problems here is that the average Rover buyer is totally interested in on road driving.
They have capable vehicles (watch some of the Rover vids from their website, they do quite well), but they don't really outfit them to go offroad (tires, for example, could be way more aggressive, but unnecessary for carpool)
I have a good friend who plopped down a buck and a quarter or so for the turbo top end truck. He knows he won't be able to hang with me once I am outfitted. So I will drive to the duck ponds, and backwater fishing spots, and campsites instead of him.
But he will be supplying the good stuff at the end of the trail (Oban 30 anyone???)

depends what landrover. the Defenders are sick. I came around a trail a year ago and ran into a landrover club and those guys were kicking ass out there. Really sick Defenders. The ranges are nice but thats only for cruising around town. haha I wish I had a Defender. Too bad they are going for 45k plus. booooo
The reason the Defender is not sold in the US is because it doesn't have an air bag. The US requires all car sold in this country to be sold with a driver front air bag.
