I did something similar. I made angle cuts on the end and added shackle mounts.

Yours looks good. Keep the great ideas coming.

Great jobs guys. One of these is definitely on my to-do list. I've been thinking of going the route that WhiskeyTango did, except making mine more of a mid-width with a longer angled bottom edge. I wish I could find some 3" x 6" for a little more depth but I've only come across 2" x 6".

Just a couple of questions for you guys since I've never worked with thicker gauge steels. I want to add holes for the stock fogs and was wondering if a hole saw mounted in a drill press will be strong enough to get through 3/16" or 1/4" steel? Also, what's the easiest way to cut one of these things to length or to cut the angled bottom edge? I was thinking an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel but I've never used one and don't know how easy it wll be to cut a long straight line.

If all this works out, I'm also considering adding an inverted winch similar to how a lot of people have done with their stock bumper so the line runs out the center of the C-channel between the frame rails.

Thanks,
Bill

I am wondering the same thing as far as cutting, both the fog light holes and the angled corners. I guess I could always take it to a fabricator but that just adds more $$$ to a low cost bumper.

Cutting the holes with a drill press would work fine, just buy a good hole saw meant for heavy steel and go slow and keep it oiled or you will just burn up the saw. Also for cutting you can use an angle grinder, but good luck on a straight line. I would reccomend just paying the shop a couple dollars to chop the ends off or rent a metal chop saw. I always bought my steel from Fazzio's in NJ and they will cut it for you for a decent price

Those look great guys! I started with the same channel and then chopped it and boxed it all in so it looked fuller. I was even able to mount my winch plate on top. You can see pics on my gallery. I am hoping soon to get some shackle mounts to replace the H1 shackles, but they work great for now
