We think alike except I use a scrap 4" x 6" pressure treated board same length as your steel bumper

Nice bumper Greenmachine. For those that don't want to search...

By the way, I saw the pics of your rear bumper. How did you attach the shackles to the stock rear? Are they just for looks or are they functional? I tried searching but couldn't find any posts from you about how did this mod.

Thanks guys! I have since sandblasted it all and had it lined to make it more professional looking.

The rear shackles are off an old K5 military blazer. These are functional. The mounting post for the shackle has four bolts that mount through the side of the rear frame rail. I also added a 1/4" backer plate on the inside of the frame rail. Then on the outside of the mounting post there is an "L" shaped bracket that came down the outside of the post and under the it to the bottom of the frame rail with two more bolts and a backer plate. There is a total of six grade 8 bolts holding these, probably overkill but i wanted to make sure this were not going come off.

I'd take pics but I got rid of that set up. I am replacing it with a stubby made out of the channel again and boxed as well with tire carrier and shackle mounts. I am just hoping it not too heavy for the rear
