From the camera mounted in the spare....can you see down enough to help in hooking up a trailer?

This is a link to the lockpick that allows use of a backup camera with factory nav

Ground rat nice work on the camera.

I am thinking of getting an Import Japanese RHD toyota Surf and was thinking about mounting a camera & small monitor on the LHS of the vehicle to see - on coming traffic if I am behind a large transport truck or bus on single lane highway..... or trying to turn left in a heavy intersection. I am not the greatest electrician...but thinking of mounting the camera in the side mirror or near the front bumper on the left hand side.

Do you think this type of camera set up would work??

Yeah... I think you have the right idea there. I wish I had a camera mounted like that when I have been in those situations. You can get a couple of cheap, small cameras on the internet and play with them. One thing to look out for... and this depends on your set-up, but some cameras produce a mirror image which is used for backing up. If you want to use one for the application you are speaking about, I would choose one that produces a regular image. Good luck and post pics of your setup!!

I saw your set up Dan...and was thinking something along that line...even mounting inside just in the corner of the windshield and A-pillar. Still have not purchased a RHD...was going to go to Calgary this weekend and look at one...but Heather is not feeling well and the weather and highways Stink!!!

Love to Dan! When are you thinking? Might borrow a friends tow trailer and load up the JK on a flat deck and pull down with my Diesel.

I had seen mirrors for RHD's to help out with blind angles in a LHD world...and thought why not a camera??? since I seen your's and Dwikto's set up with camera and monitor I thought it would look better than a mirror system sitting next to the A-pillar.

I am looking for one that produces a regular image.....The biggest worry for me purchasing a RHD has been turning left in a heavy/busy intersection or passing on single lane highway...with visibility. I was going to look at a RHD Surf 3.0L in Calgary this weekend for a great price...but the wife is sick and the highways stink 12 inches of wet slushy snow...so I may head out next weekend.

If I do purchase a RHD import...I will be spending money on a decent camera and monitor system and if I purchase and set up I will post some pictures.

thanks for the link Dan...this may work very well for a RHD the Rear View Camera System One (1) Flush Mount Camera Setup with 7" Mirror Display Model # RVS-770611. Could place Camera mounted near the top at the A-pillar inside the vehicle and have a monitor in the rearview mirror! Could work very well.....Makes me less nervous about purchasing a RHD for a commuter!
