Yeah, you want pics, coming, coming.....in meantime, I screwed these two 55w lights into the underneath of plastic stock rear light cluster, and ran wiring into the cluster through 3/8 inch hole. The kit contains wiring to snap into the reverse wiring harness, and containS a number of brackets for various mounting positions. Given I mounted them so close, it is easy to compare and laughable how crap the stock reversing lights. h**p://www.jcwhitney.com/Navigator_Backup_Light_Kit?ID=12;0;0;0;100001;Prod uctName;0;0;0;N;2018388;0;0

I have used those Halogen back up bulbs before and I liked them. I have to get a set for my JK now that I've been reminded about it!

I am installing the PIAA 1500's under my bumper as we speak... This kit is foolproof and it came with a three position toggle switch. Maybe I'll do a write up if anyone is interested..

Though I must admit, the cut bumper cover idea is pretty cool. I might do that for some driving lights for assholes with their bright in my mirror. LOL

Oh, and I got my bulbs from JC Whitney.

Here they are:

Thanks RedNeck, I just ordered some of the 50W Halogen replacement bulbs. The the stock back up lights in the JK are a joke.

I just installed the 50 Watt Halogen replacement bulbs from JC Whitney as suggested by RedNeck and the new bulbs are noticeably brighter than the OEM bulbs.

Here is a pic during the install with a new Halogen on the left and the OEM back up light on the right:

and another taken from the rear with the upgraded halogen's light on the right and the OEM on the left of the pic:

I measured the output of the OEM vs. the upgraded halogen bulb with the spot meter on my DSLR at 10' from the back up light and the Halogen is just over twice as bright as the OEM. Nice improvement for 10 mins time and $25. Good call on the new bulbs RedNeck!

Default Replacement Bulbs

Has anyone had issues with blowing fuses after putting in the rear replacement bulbs? I did that on a Cherokee and kept having fuses blow, plus it discolored my stock light cover, I guess because of the added heat. Anyway, just want to hear if any of you guys are having any problems a month or so after install.

I'm curious about the heat as well. I had a set of taillight covers melt once because I sat parked my Fairlane with the stick shift in reverse by accident.

So far so good, I have not had any issues with the halogen bulbs overheating or blowing fuses. The upgraded bulbs are supposed to be the same wattage as the stock bulbs so I do not expect to have fuses start popping on me. I do expect the new halogen bulbs to produce more head which does not seem to be an issue in the winter when the temps are seldom above 45 deg. I rarely have the Jeep in reverse for me than 10-15 seconds at a time which is not long enough for any heat damage to occur. I guess if I got into a situation where I was in reverse for an extended period of time I might have some overheating issues?

I like the added lights in the rear bumper, but with a plastic stock bumper won't they get crushed if you get hung up on rocks?

I've been installing extra reverse lights on my last two vehicles. I hate to say it but I never thought of putting them into the bumper like that. Thanks for the pics.
