Bofer84's Locker Mod Write-up
I do wonder tho... can the original switch be used instead? It is a 3 way (as far as I know). You already toggle it up and down to engage the front and rear, just not in any order or when ever. Wouldn’t it make sense to just use that same switch and wire it so that pressing it up once will engage the front, and again will disengage? And likewise for pushing it down for the rear?
to me that'd make it better, because you are limited in space for switches, and why have 2 switches for lockers?

oh, and I’m assuming that the OEM locker switch still works as if nothing was wrong after doing the mod, right? I’m mostly concerned with the lights on the dash still coming on when you turn a locker on or off. I don’t want to turn one on and then forget it about it after getting off the trail. I highly doubt these lockers would stand up to 70mph for very long, unless it was a strait away…
i don't think what you are worried about would really be possible. if you have ever driven with lockers on, you know what it feels like and know that you would never be able to, mistakenly, forget they are on and drive to a freeway and get up to 70mph without noticing.

well, i guess this would be nice, but you are talking about a very complicated, electronic, computer controlled switch. and if you are talking about the two sets of switches shown in the photo above:
both sets are not for lockers.
yes, the original switches work just like normal.

and when i asked "why have 2 sets of switches" i meant, that to me it'd be better to just re-use the OEM switch and not wind up with 2 switches that control a locker, or 3 total for the whole thing. I knew that only 2 of the switches in the picture were for lockers while the other two are most likly for lights or something else.
and yeah, now that i think about it, you're right, when the lockers are engaged, you can tell and would know it well before getting near highway speeds.
I am going to see if i can find one of these OEM switches thats been removed so i can look at it, or just pull mine out. I think it can be done, just not as easy as installing 2 extra switches...
When you do this mod, it states that the locker lights flash when you throw the newly installed switches. By "flash", do you mean they flash just like when the factory switch is used until the locker actually locks, and then they stay steady on? Or do they continue to flash regardless of whether the locker is actually locked or not?
Thanks in advance.

So my question is, do you need to be in 4wd for it to flash... cuz mine doesn't do it in 2hi... but it does indeed lock! As mentioned above, you can't mistake that
the locker lights will start flashing once you flip the switch, it usually takes a roll or two of the wheel to lock though, and it will keep flashing, until you flip the switch back.
When i flip the switch on mine, it starts flashing about half a second after and continues to flash until i turn it off. If your light doesnt flash, you might want to try and make sure its actually locked...it may not be.
One other thing, i have just picked up from running this mod over the past few months. When you lock it in 2 hi or 4hi, turn the esp off

But back to the flashing light... I can tell you that my lockers lock in when I flip the switch (only done it in 2hi)... there's defenitely no mistaking the feeling of front or rear locker engaged... but my light doesn't flash... Which is actually fine by me... flashing stuff gets on my nerves anyway.
EDIT: I went today at lunch and tried my locker switch in 4hi... works great... still nothing blinks... I imagine it should be the indicator on the dash that blinks, correct? nothing on mine blinked at me. Defenitely locked though...

If yours doesn't blink, thats awesome...But yes, the normal locker light that stays lite when the locker is locked, using the factory switch, is the one that will blink
I like it because it lets me know that i have them locked in 4hi
and not 4 low.
Did you do your wiring the same as me, and use separate switches??

I think you have something wrong, on the stock application, the lights blink when you press the locker switch, and continue to blink until the lockers are able to engage. Once the lockers engage in a stock Rubi, the light stops blinking and goes on steady, to let you know your ready to go. If your lights have never gone solid when using the lockers in 4LO before this mod, you had something going wrong. Don't know if you can have the dealer diagnose it now with the mod tho. Sounds like an electrical gremlin only, since you've had your lockers working.
