DIY mesh bikini top
I think that the ultimate design would be to make it long enough to cover the main front area (to the sound bar, essentially) and to utilize the conveniently squared flanges below the knobs for the door surrounds as the mounting points. To do this, you would just need to make it rectangular with the same sort of seam along all four sides, but then with a rod of some sort inserted into the side seams to provide support and even out the tension. Then you place a cut-out (or large grommet) up against the side rods where the knobs would go through.
Thus, it would still be easily rolled up for storage, should have even tension, you wouldn't need any bungies, and most importantly it would position it up as high as possible without interfering with the soft top. The only down side that I can see is that it wouldn't work with the Freedom Panels unless you figure out a replacement bolt system to take the place of the one that is part of the soft top door surrounds - but personally I would only use this shade with the soft top so that would not be a factor for me.

OK, OK!
It's still spring around these parts and rain comes every few days, if not sooner.
Once I get the mesh bikini back on, I'll take some more pics.

8x10 mesh tarp from Menards.
Here are a couple more pics I took today before the thundering tower (and associated tornado warning) sent us scrambling for cover.

These pics are across the front.
There are three pieces of velcro, one at each loop.
The corners are pulled to the sides by the elastic straps.
Along each side, there are two more elastic straps, just in front of the center crossbar and just behind the speaker bar. Each rear corner strapped just behind the rear crossbar. There are a total of 8 elastic straps and 3 velcro strips.
I put it on today because I took the wife and kids mountain biking.
I needed to protect their palefaced skin.
