big hole for a big bolt. This bolt and the one below it connect to a support frame inside the body to keep everything in place and to support the weight. I have had this carrier for several months now and still NO COMPLAINTS about it. Absolutely rock sturdy, no vibrations, no rattles etc. here is the pic you asked for.

Can anyone tell me the additional length added to your JK with this carrier? I'm ready to order, but think I might have to go with the non-can version due to the size of my garage. If anyone knows how deep it is that would be super helpful.

can try to measure it tonight but I don't have the other version to compare it to......I would guess it would be the depth of a fuel can. 6-8 inches max.

Here's a side picture, looks like it is about even with the edge of the rear glass if you leave it open.
