Just completed this mod today and it looks great.
The only problem is I had to buy a 4'x8' sheet of the aluminum. So I have eight extra sheets 15"x28" of expanded aluminum. Not looking to make any money so I will part with them at cost plus shipping. Pm me if you are interested.

I did this mod months ago. I removed the double sided adhesive and used Locktite ruberized superglue to glue the zip tie anchors to the grill. I think I'd have to grind them off if I wanted to remove them.

Finally got mine finished and put on. Duplicolor bedliner, and for the grill insert I opted for a sheet of aluminum from mcmaster - painted black to match. Attached with gorilla glue, mounting blocks, and zipties. That's not going anywhere anytime soon. I also paint matched my Jeep badge to Steel blue and relocated it.

Just did mine last weekend. Turned out nice.
I used stucko mesh, liked they way it looked, plus it was dirt cheep. I was in Garage cleaning mode yesterday so the extra 5/6 of a sheet went onto the trash. I used Gorilla Glue super glue on the ZIP tabs. It was a PITA pealing off all the double tape from the tabs, but the glue holds like mad.

To anyone that has gone the plastic gutter mesh route, any regrets? Is it holding up okay. I would prefer to go that route because the color is molded in and there is no concern of paint chipping and the screen rusting. Just wanted to get thoughts on those that have done it.

I used Brake cleaner to clean the grill and black caliper paint to paint it.
Paint first so its ready for install!!
I Took out the 6 plastic screw- did by hand - hint hint
Pulled gently by the blinker- not to hard now its still connected
Pulled red tab out FIRST- then pulled plug out
Pulled bottom out
Have grill ready
Laid all the tie downs - 3 going down and one on each top hole
Zip tied each one using a small screwdriver to help get the tie up
Re Install the grill and Vuala!!

Great Mod! And it only took about an hour to complete (after the paint dried) I used Black satin Plastic Paint, gave it a good 4 coats to ensure it won't rust. I used expanded steel, all materials were purchased at Home Depot for less than $50. It looks and functions great, will keep the grasshoppers from denting my rad fins from now on. Thanks to the original poster for the great idea.

Hasn't been hit by any big rocks or anything, but it's definitely stopped some good sized bugs. I did lose one of my zip-tie blocks, but that's it.
