Couple of days ago i finished my version.
I am waiting for the rain to stop and for the temp to warm up before i actually test it. But it will work. Actually i tested it when i was building it, but never took a pic.
It will also allow me to park in the garage, by front hood being under the cover.
Here is what it looks like. It uses 2 pulleys on each side.
Hope the pic work. this will be my first time to post pic.

I don't have a garage or I would build similar to yours. Its getting warmer and I'm planning to build a hardtop table like the OP did. Just can't decide on my design yet. I want something to hold the doors and front panels as well.

I wanted to avoid setting the bottom edge on anything. I am afraid it may crack. That's why i used the belt/straps to hold the top from under.
I am going to do some kind of shelf padded with carpet for the doors and the front top pieces. Not there yet. Too much to do and too little time.
And since i used only 2x3 i do not want to put any more weight on the frame holding the top. I don't want to overload the whole thing and find the top on the ground when i come home.

Great write up. Someone mentioned carpet earlier, first thing that came to mind is that indoor/outdoor carpet, type used in boats. Secure the stand, secure the top, no worries...I see a spring project for me...of course, got to get the JK first!...end of month I hope...

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU,

brilliant! you just gave me an idea on how i can take mine off (2 door) bymyself.
Ill weld together a similarly shaped table out of steel, then carpet strap the top of it.

thank you for this idea!

Just an FYI, I set my doors on pieces of foam flooring surrounding the outside of the table and lean against the table. The Freedom Panels set on the bottom rail where the 2x4 cross on an angle.
The only downside would be rain or wind... But it works for short periods!

I like your build, but I can say that in two years of "throwin' the top" on my table, no cracks, chips, scratches, etc! I have re-surfaced (painted with vinyl spray) the top of the table, as it weathers.

On a note to make it easier on the jeep. I took towels and stick them under the top so that it can slide on the body and the alinment peg wont damage the pant. Makes sliding 10 times easier.
