Homemade Jerry Can Mount
Not since I painted the can, no. The mock-up photos were with it empty since it was barley balancing on the bracket. I plan on flushing it out anyway since it hasn't been used for a few years. It was originally for storing diesel, but we used it for gasoline storage for out lawn movers for a while. I'll just put a little fuel in each time and pour it into a funnel with a coffee filter in it to see if any contaminates come out. If it seems like it won't be safe for use in the JK, it'll become a garage ornament perhaps and I'll buy a new can, but I think it should be fine since we've always had the top on and latched shut and the gasket is still in good condition.
The only thing holding me up now is that can holder I ordered on eBay, USPS tracking says it should b here on Monday the 30th. I'm off on Mondays so hopefully it'll come at a decent time so that I can sand it down and paint it that Monday and mount it the next day. I have the black bracket still on the tire carrier and does not move at all. I took a bag of 50lb concrete mix and set it on there with no flexing whatsoever.

Update:
Can mount came in today which was an awesome surprise since USPS said it was supposed to arrive Monday. They did a stellar job with my package as you can see:

I got the can in the mount and took some shots of what it will look like. It is sitting crooked to stay balanced; it is only resting on the bracket, not mounted. I plan to sand it down and have it painted tonight.

Started to do some painting last night, but winds began to pick up so I had to stop and finish up this morning. I still have to paint the red bottom of the can holder, but this is what I have as of now. Hopefully I can finish the painting today and mount the can one day this week after work. I just don't want to get it a rush and start mounting it before the paint completely cures.
