Did some more work tonight, which didn't go so well. The mount doesn't seem as sturdy as I thought and has an issues with the weight of the can being far from the mounting point...it's back to step 1, planning, for now...

Thanks, that may be my final setup. I will try and keep going with this though since I was pretty excited about making my own mod. We'll see what happens.

Maybe weld on some rebar for support or steel bracing. I saw a bumper the other day (should've taken photos) that cut a square chunk deal out of bumper where it fit the can perfect into the bumper.. You could always do the same. Measure can side to side then cut that out of bumper and weld on new side plates and slide the can right into place and make a proper locking deal for it

Thanks all! I think I'll try the welding some rebar to the backet and have some at an "L" shape to push against the carrier, like how a book shelf is designed. Hopefully will start that either tomorrow night or Friday. My RR snorkel comes in tomorrow so that will be my first priority for my upcoming weekend trip.

I'll keep you all updated.

Try welding a gusset to the bottom of mounting plate to sturdy it. If your unfamiliar with a gusset it just a triangle and put the wide end out and butt the small end back to the tire carrier. This should stiffen it up enough. Let us know if it works I want to build one similar.Flat plate would work best 1/8" would probably be enough.

This is exactly what I plan to do. My weekend trip was cancelled so I plan to have this done by the weekend and ready to test.
