Removing the headrests won't interfere with the airbags. All you're really doing is removing the top bracket that attaches to the headrests & the cable that engages the locking mechanism when you fold the seats.
How do I remove the rigid headrests off of my 2-door JK. I feel what looks like a slide or button at the base, but nothing moves.
I have not even had a passenger in the back seat yet, but don't like to drive it tumbled all the time. I like being able to throw my camera or hiking gear in the back seat without opening the tailgate. The visibility is ridiculous.

Just did it. Not long and easy with no hack saw needed. Screw driver and 3/8 wrench. No damage and can install back when wife yells at me about kids neck in few years. If I don't forget what I did with them.

My 2012's don't seem to remove easy. I wish I could tip them down during the week when driving primarily by myself then have my kids tip them back when needed.
Attach a strap or bungie from it to the bottom of the back seat Rest
This will hold it folded back until you need it for a rear passenger
Just release the strap and it will spring back into position
