Great writeup! I just got a cheap used setup that works on the rain gutters but if that doesn't work I'll be doing this! Cheers!

Default Roof Rack Mod

Well, you guys have done it... I've ordered Thule parts to partake in this same modification. Has anyone who's done this have any more info. on how the racks have fared? Hopefully no structural failures... racks ripping off at speed, etc... I'll let you guys know how it goes when I complete the job!

These were taken at the in-laws 90 miles away. Logged 18.5 mpg running 70-75 mph most of the way...

Is that ramp for the dog? If so, it's badass.

DBB888,

Very good write-up. Very good.

Just one question. I noticed that in your first set of install photo's that you had your rack setting on top of the cross bars, then later photo's with the air deflector installed on the front that your rack was mounted lower on the cross bars.

Just wondered why you changed the mounting ?

Also any idea what kind of weight the rack will carry ?

It's for Gunner, my Yellow Lab. He's getting old and prefers the ramp...
