Pulling a boat up a wet or gravel boat ramp? just having the rear in 4hi is great for that. IMO, it is pointless to have selectable lockers if you can not tell them exactly when you want them on or not.
I can definitely see why you might want it in 2wd. I never thought about that...

I could also see why you might want it if you were into "muddin". I'm not into "muddin" though. I hate mud, its a PITA to clean off later.

Does this mod set any trouble codes in the computer? I had read somewhere that these type of things would.

So yeah what exactly are the consequences of locking the rear end while all of the traction control stuff is active? what happens when the computer tries to apply the brake to one wheel when the axle is locked? just wondering about possible breakage or excessive wear and tear?

did the mod, took about 1-1/4 hrs. I engaged the rear switch on the pavement without disengaging the esp. rear wheels were locked and barking when turning but no esp lights. held the esp switch down till it dinged in 4h and did some uneven stuff with just the front then just the rear locked. climbed onto a scrap concrete drain pipe with the front locked in 4 high. everything worked fine. Got all associated crap from radioshack. the switches were 4.99 ea and they have a light.

First, thank you for the excellent write up!. I did the mod a couple of days ago with Radio Shack parts and then disabled the ESP using the steering wheel trick. My lockers now lock in 4 Hi and I'm able to lock up the rear in 2WD. Very simple and easy. Mny thanks!!!

O9rubicon, I’ve got my lockers hooked up this way also. If you want to use a switch with a light all you need it a relay.

If you want some help let me know.

Wheeled Uwharrie with the mod. Did most of the probs with the rear locked in 2wd on and off to check the functionality of the mod. Good stuff, but a couple of times I had to use 4wd because the problems were too technical. I was intentionally taking the more aggressive line in 2wd to test this new mod. I would reccomend.
