I really miss Corpus Christi! Loved Malaquite Beach for the camping and fishing. Maybe my wife and I can get our family down there soon for a little bit of coastal therapy. The only problem I have is that my worthless baby momma still lives there...hasn't seen or called her kids (that I have custody of) in nearly 6 years. If she got wind of us coming down there I can assure you that she and her drug addict husband would cause a large s%1+ storm to start brewing. Other than that small problem, I would definitely be up for a little beach time on Padre Island!

Whatever you do...do NOT get caught driving on the dunes. There are roads behind the dunes that IIRC are okay to use when they are open. The PINS staff will open and close the gates at various times. If you want confirmation...just ask the stupid spring breaker who decided it would be cool to drive his TJ on the dunes several years ago. There was a picture taken with his plates in clear view and put in the Port Aransas newspaper. Well...that pic made it all the way to the TX DPS and the poor kid ended up arrested for a federal crime. (I used to work at Woody's in Port A and that was a story that kept floating around...)

I went to undergrad and grad school at TAMUCC and have degrees in marine science and field biology. We used that part of PINS as a stop on what one professor called "beach day" in the Marine Ecology class. There was also at one point an annual beach clean-up day.

If anyone has a pic of the "4x4 ONLY" sign, I would love to see it posted up here...

Ahhhh how I miss that sign! I remember it being a lot larger than that, though. Did they change it?
That may become my new avatar...hope you don't mind that I stole it.

I remember several years ago (around August of 1999 to be exact) a small hurricane blew through that part of Padre Island and there was a picture in the Caller-Times of a BULLDOZER buried in the sand down there. That sign isn't kidding! We went down there one time and saw a BIG Ford up to the rocker panels in a wash-out. He shouldn't have gotten that close to the surf swash zone. Those wash-outs can happen anywhere and you might not see them until it is too late and your rig is up to the windshield in sand and saltwater.

Hey guys im a Corpus local, Im about to try to fit 34" tires on my stock rubicon...(this weekend) I hope they fit. haha. I am going to buy a 2.5" terra flex lift soon. I dont really have space/ experience to try to install it by myself. Does anyone have any advice of who to use or if I should try it by myself?
On a diff note, I have been to a large sand dune playing around. Sometimes im alone and sometimes there are other 4x4's out there and sometimes atv's and dirtbikes. The place is really cool but can get really soft sometimes and easy to get stuck so dont go alone...
Go to google maps here is a link
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl
and search 27.576308,-97.250547
That will show you the place go check it out if you have never seen it.

Whoopsie! Looks like a wash-out to me. Children, this is why we don't get near the swash zone in a Jeep...

If you go down to Bird Island on PR22, you will find a boat launch. Just a bit north of that boat launch (on the water) is the TAMUCC Field Research Station. OMG I had some good times there...it isn't accessible by Jeep though.
