3 or 4 inch lift? ISSUES?
Hey all,
This is my first post on this great site! Let me start by saying that I've been using the search function and trying to do some research on this topic before I posted. I'm very familiar with lifts. I currently own a 2004 TJ with a 6" suspension lift and a 2" body lift with 37s (for sale). I also just lifted our 2005 Liberty with a 2.5" Daystar spacer lift. I am picking up my new 2007 2 door JK on Monday from the dealer. Just getting lazy in my old age and wanted an automatic transmission, power windows and locks, speed control and that really cool freedom top! My new JK will be my daily driver, so I would like it to have decent road manners. Coming from a Jeep with 8" of lift I would like to get as much lift as possible on the new 2 door JK WITHOUT doing all the crap I had to do on my TJ to get it to ride correctly (read slip yoke eliminator, transfer case drop, motor mount lift, new CV drive shaft, adjustable upper control arms, etc, etc, etc.) Seems like 3" of lift is about the max before some of you are getting vibes. Just wondering who has a 3.5" or 4" lift on a 2 door and what problems have been encountered and how they have been solved? I'll probably run 35" tires as well. Any help, opinions, suggestions, or thoughts would be greatly appreciated as I dive into the new rig!

jeep change the driveshaft design from the tjs no more slip yoke instead you get a wierd lookin cv flange style that does not use u joints in the driveline so you would not get vibe issuse until higher lift do to extreme angle the major reason to change the shaft out on a jk is the lenght of the shaft when lifted and to install fix yokes with ujoints for ease of replacement on the trail

I have a 3.5" RE lift on my 2 door JK with JE Reel 1350 style dual cardan driveshafts and 4.88 gears. I'm running 35s and do have a driveline vibration between 40 and 50 mph (speedometer speed). It's not real bad but is noticeable.

JK Super Freak
If you do enough off-roading, it won't be long before you have to replace you drive shaft. The stock shafts are thin and hollow... if a rock hits it, it will be like ripping apart a soda can. Not a pretty picture.
