I've been happy with 33's and a 2" lift. If you can get by with 33's for the wheeling you do there is the initial cost savings plus 35's are harder on the Jeep, more of a chance of wearing out ball joints, breaking an axle shaft, etc...

I would recommend a small lift with 33's, once in a while I still get a little fender rub at full flex.

And I'm running 4.10s, as is TORN, and I was almost always a gear higher than him as we tooled across the U.S. to Moab, he in his two-door on 35s and me in my four-door on 33s (both with 4.10s). It also seemed he was having to fill with gas about half again more times than me.

Having said that: I would like to have 35s for off-roading, and they really do look nice on a four-door. But I only want that with proper regearing, and with a 4" lift--and I've not convinced myself that's where I'd really like to spend my retirement money (yet!).

Besides, if you look at 33s on a four-door from the right angle, they can look pretty danged good (photo by High Roller):

Keep in mind too, Mark you still have the stock fenders. If you were to get flat fenders and or a 1" body lift, I bet you could go pretty much anywhere a comparable Jeep could go with 35s. Remember, 35s only add one more inch of radius, so that's all the difference there is in height. That ain't much. Keep your retirement money. You're probably gonna need some more ammunition. Awesome shot, by the way, Mark!

I agree with the minority here based on your own criteria for what you'll be doing. As others have pointed out, 35's will have a more negative impact on power and a re-gear may be essential (depending on your terrain, driving habits and expectations). So 35's may in fact ruin your Jeeping pleasure if you don't re-gear, which will be costly. You would also have to seriously consider other upgrades to the front axle to beef it up to reliably run 35's.

I just switched from stock rubi tires to 35 toyo m/t's didn't notice a significant power loss driving in town. On the highway 6th gear is now pretty much usless, but other than that they look great, give me some more clearence, and I don't have to sacrifice too much. Tho later on I will be beefing up my front axle when I have more cash.

Hah! Well, I kept up with TORN on his 35s, 2.5" BB and 1" BL, and High Roller on
his 37s and 4" RC lift all over Moab! Thanks for the complement on the pic--I love
it! Just wish I'd taken it. But, then I wouldn't have been in my Jeep driving it
across The Wedge on Poison Spider Mesa, would I? Pic is by High Roller.
