Yeah I personally think so. First is low but not stupid low. You will be shifting more than when u had 3.21s but u now have compression for slowing down and much nicer pep on the highway.

Some like the extra 'pep' and others don't need that feel of 'speed' from their 4x4 box So the gearing is always going to be personal preference. Especially since I can effieciently drive the gfs JK with 35s and 3.21 around town, up in the mountains and offroading and I don't feel the need to up the gears ASAP lol

I have a 2012 Sahara JKU with Auto. My Teraflex 2.5" coils and Bilsteins are shipping this week. I would like to go with 35s on my stock 18" wheels, but I think at best I should only go to 33s until I can re-gear. I've seen the gear chart for the 2012s - http://www.*********.com/forum/f96/2...chart-1292355/

But some people are telling me I'll be fine here in Florida and I will only have issues when going up a grade at highway speeds (downshift from overdrive). I do wheel my Jeep in old quarries and such around here so I do not want to spoil any off road performance with the 35s.

Thanks in advance for the input.
The gear chart in that link is a preliminary one I made. Don't exactly remember the changes made since then but the updated one is in the FAQ on this forum. With the 3.6L and the new WA580 transmission, 4.10s or 4.56s will be in the wheel house. Highway speeds and terrain play a lot in the decision and there are bigger consequences in efficiency by not having enough gear. Personally I'd be kicking myself for not getting a JK with 4.10s off the lot and then you wouldn't even need to sweat a decision.

Default Auto vs. Manual

Obviously there is a difference in gearing for an Auto tranny vs. a manual. there have been alot of gearing options addressed but not specifically for one tranny or the other. The one thing i have heard is that the best solution is 4.88's for manuals and 5.13s for the auto. This is assuming the 2007-2011 jeep. Does this sound about right?
Im rolling 35's with 3:73 and around town isnt bad but the highway and searching for gears kills me when in OD. I have read a couple of the other posts just trying to get a more solidified answer. Thanks

There are gear charts in the FAQ of this forum that illustrate the differences. The 4.88s for manuals and 5.13s for automatics came to be as early on those were the only two gear sets available. Many vendors listed 4.56s, but they just weren't out there. This was followed by the availability 5.38s and later their reliability issues. So the 4.88s for manuals and 5.13s for automatics responses are still out there as there are many people who found success and are happy with them.

The gear charts were built out to illustrate the differences of transmissions for the pre-2012 JKs, and to help with the understanding that there aren't one size fits all solutions. Then with availability of 4.56s and 5.38s we were presented with options beyond the 4.88s for manuals and 5.13s for automatics to really hone decisions based on needs.
