If all you do is daily drive, and you want your rig to rev the same as stock, then ok.
If you drive in mountains, or actually wheel, in rocks, then the factory gearing is not deep enough, especially if equipped with a manual trans.
I'll discard the added tire weight at a greater circumference debate, which further reinforces going deeper gearing than simply matching stock.
FWI I ran 35's and 5.13's for 3 years before going to 37's, and I miss the punch the rig had and would prefer to have 5.38's... even with that, it would not be enough in the rocks, and am looking at an Atlas 4spd.

I'm glad you are happy with what you've got and have a rag to defend your choice, but the simple matter is that depending on actual use (both on and off road) there is no one answer fits all, and to suggest otherwise is irresponsible.
I'm not defending anything. Your beef is obviously with cartech.
EVERYBODY HAS THEIR OPINION!

I ABSOLUTELY agree with yours. I wish I had the money to throw away on a gear upgrade. I am running the 4.88s on my 37s because I upgraded my gears with the 35s. After driving it for a few months, I will give you my opinion.

PERFORMANCE SUX TO ME!
ON & OFF ROAD.

PS- Mine is an automatic 2014 & I'm just supplying info from cartech.

Well, we are in a similar boat, I'm running 5.13s because i never thought I'd go to 37's... and now I wish I had 5.38's... but cannot justify the $ for the small change.
Cheers.

Yeah...I'll probably pull the trigger next year...tell my wife I need to take it in for some shaft adjusts. Oh I'll get the shaft adjusts, along with a gear upgrade!

I did the Metalcloak 3.5" gamechanger lift and originally purchased 35" tires then later went to 37's. I LOVED the look of 37's on my Rubicon 10A Unlimited. My axles are 4.10 which are OK for 37's on the road and because my Rubicon has 4:1 transfer case I could get by without re-gearing and still have enough power/torque for when I was off the trail.

That being said, I do a lot of traveling on the freeway across a couple of states. I made ONE trip with 37" tires. Now I pull off my larger tires and put on my "commuter" tires when I make these trips. For me, the fuel "economy" more than offsets the looks of the larger tires while making these trips. It was not only the money but I had to make additional fuel stops as well. If I were to only drive locally I would definitely keep the larger tires on all of the time.

my $.02 worth, aw what the heck, make it a nickel.
