Default 4x2 Saraha

I found a good deal on a 2007 4dr Saraha. How hard would it be to add axle and transfer case to make it a 4x4?

Take a look at this highlight nthinuf posted years ago -

For the type of build you previously talked about doing, I think it would be a fun conversion, and pretty rewarding. For most people it probably doesn't make sense.

I agree with resharp, and if you wanna put tons under it would be a good time to do it plus some other goodies. Sounds like a fun project if you get it going.

Thank you resharp for the information. If I have all the parts, it looks like it will be a weekend job.

Unless someone gifted me a 4x2 (ie free or close to it), then I don't think I would do this job. From the other thread he paid $5K just in parts. 3 days of labor my azz. Most everyone on forums seems to complete these installs in what seems like willy dilly no big deal times. I usually multiple posted forum times by 4, and in this case I may even put it closer to 10 but I could easily see myself turning this into a 3 month project working on it part-time.

I can get the JK for around 8k with 147,000 miles on it. After adding the tranfer case, Dana 60's and 40's tires, I know the motor and transmission will not last that long. But hoping I can get a year out of it, that will give me time to locate a LS and 6L80 transmission. It will not be my every day driver, just building it for fun/wheeling.

Thinking about going with Fusion King Pin Elite 60 front axle and Elite 60 full flat rear axle, with ARB Lockers and 4.88 gears. The axles come 72 inches wide. Plan in running Nitto Mud Grappler 40x13.50R17LT, with a 4.5 inch lift and 1.5 inch body lift with short finders.

Personal opinion the Mud Glapplers are a terrible tire unless you are going to do ONLY mud. If you are going to wheel and see some trails and rocks i would opt for the same size Trail Grapplers. They are a more all around offroad tire. Still aggressive, great drip on the rocks and still do decent in the mud while still being good enough for highway. they last a while on highway and arent stupid load and annoying

4.5 inch lift is alot and there is alot to list about it and if you have been poking around then im shur you have seen this speech before. The body lift is not needed if you are changing the fenders. I wouldn't recommend putting on a body lift at all.

So $8K w/147K miles, then add another $5K+ in parts and your time converting it to a 4x4 and when I just checked cars.com, I'm seeing a 2008 JKU Sahara w/ 136K miles on it in my area for $14K, which is being sold by a dealership where you could likely do better on price from a private seller. Doing the 4x4 conversion not making much sense to me. Just doesn't sound like a very good deal to me once you start adding it up.

My impression, which could be wrong, is this one is not just about the destination, but the journey.....the build and the use which I just recall from previous thread. If you are capable of the work, I get it.... It's definitely not for everyone.
