AEM intake dyno
just got back from the dyno. the install instructions and some of the components left a bit to be desired but she did make some power.
First of all its a shame that DC gave us such a weak powerplant (156whp). Especially with the JK being such a heavy vehicle.
Here are the charts. I also measured A/F ratio. I have a spreadsheet that compares both runs in 100 RPM incerements but I need to scan that in on Monday.
All runs made in 4th gear.
Stock trim
HP:156.1
TQ:187.9
AEM Intake
HP:162.5
TQ:193.1

A/F ratios
Stock vs. AEM intake
Notice that the A/F curve shifted to the right. You can see the dip in power and torque as a result of the engine running leaner in the 3700-4100 RPM range. Some retuning to richen that area back up should yield a few more ponies in the mid range and smooth out the power band.

I bet we could see 180whp with a reworked exhaust setup, i.e. long tube headers.

After driving too and from dinner this evening I haver made 3 observations.
There is a definite increse in part throttle mid rnage torque which makes it easier to drive.
Cruising at 50mph with the cruise control activcated on a flat road I was able to get in the 23-24 mpg range (according to the dash read out). That is better for me. I'll test highway mileage tomorrow.
Lastly, when you step on it the sound it makes in the upper RPM range reminds me a modeified VR6 engine. Cool IMO. Not as loud as some people made it seem.

I had a 03 Cobra before this so Im used to intake noise but I Dont want a dumb whine on my JK ... I just want some more power
Ive had my rubicon unlimited 6spd for 1900 miles now and the best MPG I have seen 17.2mpg. This is on the dash so I know Its not totaly accurate. I generally run on the Hwy with cruse set at 65mph. Is this normal???

better than normal compared to some of the numbers i've seen; but ya, nothing out of the ordinary there.
I have an AIRAID, not AEM, so I can't speak for the AEM directly. However, as an anecdotal FYI, the AIRAID adds a really nice extra growl when you're accelerating with any decent degree of force. There's no "rice" sound or consistent drone with the AIRAID, and I'd assume that the AEM is very similar (they're both really good systems with their own advantages). Don't worry about an awful noise is all I'm saying - I love my AIRAID, and I've heard good things about AEM as well.

I was a bit concerend too. I will try and get a good sound clip this evening. The best comparison i can give is a VW with a VR6 engine taht has an aftermarket intake. That is only at WOT too. Part throttle is just like stock.
I went AEM becuase of the dry flow filter and the fact that it will eventually have a CARB EO# making it street legal. I know cops dont pop hoods on Jeeps but I have had one too many tickets for illegal engine mods in the past so I want to play safe.
