Just for the sake of comparison, if anyone is considering the AIRAID - it does change your throttle sound at partial throttle, not just at WOT. There's an audible "whistle" (this has been discussed extensively on other threads) that occurs around 1700-2100 RPM, only when driving (when air is being forced in). It's not too bad, and the Infinity stereo is more than capable of drowning it out completely.

Overall, I love the sound, and it'll only get better when I'm able to throw on a catback exhaust. At WOT, it sounds ALMOST like a small V8, but not quite as deep. There's a very noticeable seat-of-the-pants boost over stock, and I've seen a 1-2 mpg increase.

Honestly, I think the differences between the AIRAID and the AEM are very slight. AIRAID is 50 state legal, AEM will be; AIRAID has better overall filtration (minor difference - AEM was very close), but requires oiling every once in a blue moon, whereas AEM does not. AIRAID claims to increase power and torque slightly more than AEM does, but I'd say they're so close that you'd love either one. Ultimately, I think most people are making their decisions based on looks alone - do you prefer metal (AEM) or plastic (AIRAID)?

I can't say enough good things about my AIRAID, but I'm not about to bash the AEM - it's probably just as good, just different.

ok I take back what I said about the part throttle. There is a slight whistling when barely touching the pedal but it is barely audible.

I was unaware that the airaid was 50 state legal.

On a side note, when I remoed the stock air box assembly i noticed dust inside the tube and on the air temp sensor. That can't be good.

that slight whistle is present stock as well. from about 1500-2000 roughly when under slight load.

Im going to look into this AEM set up. I like the dry air filter design on it

I just installed my AirRaid yesterday, personally I think it sounds great. Either one is an improvement though.

Now what happens if you put one of these tornados in with the CAI. Say your getting 8more hp from the cai and another 8 from the tornado for a total of 16. WOuld this work?

Good question, and one that's been asking before. Short answer: Nope. Reason: The JK's throttle body has an hourglass shape that creates its own "vortex" effect - this is the reason for the "whistle" that people get when they install a CAI (it's not present without a CAI, because the stock airbox doesn't allow sufficient velocity for the incoming air, whereas the CAI's do). That thing wouldn't make a bit of difference in the JK.

Also, those tornadoes frequently don't work, and the certainly don't give you the gains listed on their website.
To each his own though.

the tornado/turbonator is THE running joke in the performance community... They do Absolutely nothing, actually can decrease horsepower.

the vortexis nothing, just spinning air, doesnt actually do anything. fual is already effectively mixed by EFI.
Hold on there partner. One person asking a question in a thread does not a forum make. everyone knows these things have no net gains unless you have nitrogen in your tires.
