Wow... great... I knew this... front interfered, and broke electrical connector, rear is fine.

Ofcourse no one ever heard of the problem back then.

David,

I don't think there is a problem with the ARB covers either. The plunger that indicates whether the dif is locked or unlocked went bad in mine. To unscrew the plunger you have to have some freeplay in the gears so you have to take the heavy caps to the extreme left and right off. When you do that, especially with an impact gun, the "Y" shaped fork that holds the locker from rotating tends to get mis-shapen. It does it in such a way that the leg of the "Y" pulls away from the locker and when put together may barely hold it from rotating. When putting mine bag together we had to reshape the "Y" so it had good engagement. If you didn't return it to it's original shape it would probably fail at some point. The piece actually looks lighter than it should be.

Once I re-gear in a couple weeks, that will be it for the warranty (There isn't much left on my rig covered). I would like to fix this before it breaks and costs me my locker which won't be covered because I re-geared.

Any updated bearings or parts??

Is this problem applicable to all JK's or just those of a certain vintage or certain model? Has the factory fixed the problem in later production?

I just had a ARB cover installed last weekend. Soon after I noticed low knock noise coming from my front end. Guess what???? Today when I went wheeling my front locker wouldn't unlock. The hell I went through trying to drive on pavement with a locker front diff. Is this due to chance? I don't think so. I followed the instructions to a T. Before purchasing this cover I askes the sales rep at Quadratec about this issue with the ARB cover and I was told that it was resolved. Apparently not!

Suggestions?

Thanks!

BTW, my gears are stock 4.10 Can't blame it on new gears either.

In some hands, an impact will do more harm than good. When working in critical places, the impact should stay on the shelf. Buy an 18" breaker bar, they're definitely cheaper than your first fix from anything you break with it. I just found a 24" from Northern Tools for under $20. Should work fine for as infrequently as I will use it. I use my impact pretty much only for those big assed bolts on the steering linkage/arms. Everything else gets the hands on treatment. It takes more time in the short run, but in the long run?
