Axle Sleeves
I just installed the Nitro Sleeves, EVO C Gussets and LCA Skids this weekend and replaced my inner axle seals while i was at it. There are several advantages of the Nitro Sleeves, took me less than 5 MINUTES to hammer them in and they are the only sleeves that accept up to 35 spline shafts for down the road.
Couple Tips to save you what could be a whole day of hammering and cussing.
1) Like painting, prep is EVERYTHING. Take your time cleaning the axle tubes, of course they are going to be a PITA if you don't properly clear them out
2)I used brake cleaner, steel wool, and a CYLINDER HONING TOOL rented from AZ(with WD40) and my tubes shinned like a new penny when I was done cleaning.
3)Use the bearing race/seal driver trust me on this, I also used a 1" diameter pipe to slide over the handle so I didn't have to remove the knuckle.
4) USE THE FREEZER, mine were in there for a week prior to install or buy some dry ice to put them in. I was able to get them in with a 3lb dead blow in less than 10 smacks.
5) Someone asked if you need to remove the inner axle seals prior to install and the answer is no. I pounded the sleeves in before pressing in the new sleeves and there was 1/2-3/4" gap between the two once everything is installed.
6) When reinstalling the axle shafts wrap the splines in TEFLON TAPE to protect the seals from ripping and causes that dreaded axle seal leak so many of us have to deal with. Once in the differential it won't cause any problems.
Any questions feel free to ask.
