Default BAS, ESP & ABS warning lights

I have a 2008 two door Rubicon with a Tereflex leveling kit and 33's. The steering wheel is centered. I keep getting the BAS, ESP & ABS warning light on my dash while driving. When these lights are on my cruise control doesn't work. Im taking it to the dealer tomorrow but thought i would check the forums brain power on this one first. ...Makes me wonder if i dont have a bad wheel speed sensor or something. Anyone seen this problem before?

Sounds like you have a wheel speed sensor going kaput. I had intermittent lights as you describe, and it was driving me crazy because they would clear and wouldn't leave any codes. I put my code reader in the Jeep and a few days later the lights came on and I was able to get the code. I replaced my passenger rear wheel sensor and all is good. The part was $17.00 at the dealer. All the best.

Just got back from the dealer and the mechanic said the left rear wheel speed sensor was not plugged in well enough. Something must have hit it guess. Lights went out so we'll see if that fixed it. If not at least I know what the problem is.

Thanks for the reply QF4...sounds like you had a very interesting job in the military.

Had this happens last month. My front left wheel sensor was bad. They aren't that expensive it it ever does go out. I think like $12. It sucks when they break off and you had to dig them out of the bearing!

Can you send a picture or description of the wheel sensor location? i am seeing the same issue and while i did add the kill switch for the ESP/BAS, i want this to work right when driving in town.

thanks. Chris

I just started getting this on my dash and I think its because the bad axle seal on the drivers rear is soaking the sensor with oil and destroying it.

Default ESP BAS ABS Lights still on

I still have the lights on for the ESP BAS ABS. The steering wheel is straight, no pulling when driving. i checked the brake fluid and it was full. i made sure all the tires were the same air pressure. i haven't gone off road since our vacation in august .

i tried getting a code from the key dance, and nothing displayed but dashes, no code came out. i hate to go to the dealer, but it looks like i am going to have too.

i have searched this and many other jeep sites for a resolution for this issue and i am not having any luck.

i have a after market ODB2 code reader as well and that gives me no codes either.

If i could get a code i would spend the time replacing wheel sensors, but i don't wnat to pull apart the brakes to see if they are damgaed. i traced the wire on all four wheels and there is no damageon any of the cables.

so if anyone else has found a way to figure out the cause of the ESP BAS ABS lights, send along the information.

thanks.

Default Just started on mine,,,,

Can anybody that has knowledge, of where HOW locate the placement of the sensors, please post. I would like to see of mine are all plugged in. Is it safe to drive on normal road conditions with the lights on? I don't want to fry anything. Also, since I don't have a code reader, has anybody had any luck with going to advanced or pepboys and have them flash it for codes?

Thanks!

Default i checked the rear sensors today

i went out today and looked for the rear and front sensors. For the Rear sensors, if you look at the back of the brakes on the rear wheels you will see the sensors. The bolt holding the sensor in is a 8 mm. Make sure you pull the red clip out before trying to remove the plug from the sensor, i used a small flat head screw driver to work the red clip out and then used needle nose pliers to get the plug off the sensor. You have to take the plug off to get the sensor out for inspection. once i pulled the sensor out it looked alrght no cracks. so i cleaned it off and put it back in.

i am going to try the front tomorrow and see if there is any sign of damage. the wire goes behind the plate that protects the rotor and i didn't feel like taking the front tires off today.

But i did find instructions to get to the Front ones. So i am planning on taking off the tires and inspecting both sensors. I did get a code at autozone as well. It was U0125 that said it lost communications with a sensor, but it doesn't say which one. i found a list of codes on another site since they don't have them here any longer because they are copy writed material and that code is not listed anyway.
so it doesn't relly help find the location of the problem.

So if i check the front ones and they look alright i am goign to have to take it in to the dealer.
Not looking forward to that.

Front Wheel sensor removal installation
  • Remove tire
  • Remove caliper
  • Remove rotor
  • You will see the sensor at this point. Just follow the ABS wire down to where it bolts in just the housing. There is a single Allen head bolt. I forget the size offhand.
  • Remove bolt
  • CAREFULLY remove sensor from housing (they break easily)
  • Finagle it out of the hole in the dust shield
  • follow the cable up behind the shock tower where you will find a clip to unhook cable
  • Reverse directions to install new sensor being super careful when you insert it and be sure to keep debris from falling in the open hole.
i did see a pic out here in another post with the wheel sensor in it for the front. i put it here because other people have asked for it. see below.

Well,,,thankfuly because of my lift, the sensors are much easier to find, but,,,,those red tabs are a handful!,,,,also very thankfully, the sensors are only about 13.oo bucks a pop,,,,,so I figure I'll purchase a set for each axel, and switch out the right rear first - because after many google searches, it seems/appears that the right one, has a tendency to go first. Then, I'll recheck the lights,,,if that doesn not satisfy the "Code Monster from Hell", I will the do the other rear. Repeating as necessary! (sarcastic ) . Either way it's MUCH cheaper than taking it to the stealership. And, if all goes well I will have a spare or three in case the "Code Monster From Hell", decides to return in the future. From what I understand the dealer can occasionally flash it if you are on their "Nice List" ( it's Kinda like the Santa's list for code readings),,,,,BUT,,, others will charge you for ALL of that trouble that you are forcing to take that time from the serious paying customers
Like I said, I think that in the end, its just less expensive to, just get the sensors, and change them out one at a time on my own.

My BIG questions are : Has anybody else that has encountered this problem driven on it - and if so how long - how far - how fast - etc? Is it dangerous either to my vehicle or to the computer if I drive it with these lights on _ the Jeep is NOT acting funny, I just have dashboard light up, like the fourth of july. Thank you for anybody that can help me out!
