Best all terrain 33" tire?
I run the Nitto Trail Grappler M/T's 295/70R17 and they are a great tire! A bit heavy, but it's due to the 10-ply sidewalls which offer better protection from rocks/branches! I get a bit of float on the highway but nothing to worry about. Good luck everyone with tire choices! There are a lot out there and everyone rides different terrain so one choice for someone might not do well for others... See ya on the trails!
I don't understand the love for the Duratracs. We have 275 pickups and Goodyear wanted some of our tire business. They gave me a set a Duratracs to run on my F250 Super Duty 4x4. I found it to be marginal at best and that it did poorly in snow and mud. It did not compare to the Cooper STT's I had on before or the Cooper ST Maxx's that I have now. My wife's boss has them on his Dodge truck and he gets stuck with regularity in the inter.
Is there something about the tire that makes it ok on lighter vehicles but not heavier. I don't understand. If we get a tuck in with them we take them off because we hate to have to chain up.

I got the Terra Grapplers... Again... Had them on my lifted Expedition, and bought another set for my 2013 JKUR. 285/75/17.
I am very happy with these tires. They are not GOOD in mud, but no A/T tires are. Terra Grapplers are good anywhere else...!
It all depends on how much you are off road, and in what conditions...
Reason for me to get A/T tires is simple.
1. I drive 200-500 miles on the freeway to get to my camp spots. I go off road to find my camp spots or explore, most of the time. Not just to wheel.
2. Not much mud here in Southern CA, at least where I like to go. I have tried them in muddy conditions, and they are not USELESS. Just not as good as a M/T.
3. I am currently off road only about twice a month. 98-99% on road.
If I was using the car to play more off road, and in mud, I would go for the Trail Grapplers.
I hear good things about the Duratracs too, but I have no personal experience with them.
There is no final answer to this thread, just preference. Good luck with your choice.

The reviews on TireRack are very good, but have not seen much written on this forum about the BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain T/A?
It looks like a great blend of road performance with some light off-road capability.

I still like the good old BFG AT. They do great on sand, dirt, rocks and trails. Mud is their weakness. I had them in a 30x9.5 on a 4 cylinder YJ and it chugged through snow pretty well. Never got stuck. While they don't have the cool mt look they are much more aggressive than a standard road tire.
That and they last 55,000 miles.
