From the looks of it, this could be about the best solution out there--meant to be permanent for a YJ so (hopefully) sturdy enough for minimal shaking, small enough to toss under the seats, allows the original mirrors to stay on my doors, cheaper than just about anything out there (including a lot of the Harley mirrors), comes as a pair, and doesn't interfere with the door hinges in the event I go for tube doors later.

It's almost too good to be true. I'll post pics/comments once I give them a go.

Also picked up a Bestop trail cover so I can just leave the top down/doors off for about the next six months.
Interesting...

I looked at this product one more time on the Quadratec website. If you click the product details tab for this item you'll find this.

"Limited 1 Year Warranty.

All Sets are Complete. *Passenger Side Mirror Gets Viewed by Looking Through Windshield.Parts Included

  • Includes arms, all brackets and hardware."
That should be fun. Might want to check into that before the order is shipped. Just sayin'.

^^Saw that. I figured it meant that in a YJ with your soft doors on (which is what they're really for), you'd have to rotate the passenger mirror forward and up over the height of the hood in some configuration or another so you could see it.

I'm thinking that won't be an issue when it's fabbed up for the JK. So long as the two mirrors are both inversions of the same design, I don't see why it wouldn't be able to work normally on the JK with the doors off. Pickick liked'em, so we'll see . . . .

Definitely repost when you get them on. I hope it works too. A phone call might prevent some hassle and .

i also went ahead and ordered these to do some exerimentation. still open to hearing if any has the PERFECT solution. but i figure there are actually 3 sets of bolts to mount these 2 (2 on the side of the windsheild, 1 on the front under it). Between all these options, im hoping at least 1 of them gets the mirror placed so that it can be seen doors off/on and not get hit by the door when it opens. really hoping to come out of this with only 1 set of full-time mirrors that does everything. we'll see.... pics (obviuosly) once do some testing.

have had these for about 2 weeks before i finally got a chance to try to mount them up. results are .....well im not keeping them. i only did the passanger side. of the 3 spots to mount it, i found that the mirror is only visible/usable when mounted in the top 2 bolts on the side of the windsheild. problems with this are a) it blocks a pretty big spot where i normally look for traffic at an intersection; b) they shake pretty bad, at only 40mph; c) there is an un-bearable whistle they make once you get to 30 mph.

so im back to square one. doors-off season is almost here, and i still dont have a mirror solution...

I researched this to death and couldn't find a solution that was good enough for both doors on and off. What I wanted was something that made the mirrors usable all the time. This I found was not to be so what finally did was made some mounts myself to bolt onto the side window plates.

This way when the doors are on I use the OE mirrors in the proper location and when the doors are off I use aftermarket mirrors I just bolt on with butterfly nuts and lock washers to the mounts. Clean and simple. Solid as a rock on the highway.

I bought a used motorcycle mirror for 15 bucks at a local store. It fits perfectly in the upper door hinge and tighten down with an acorn nut.

certainly looks like your on the right track here! but, why cant these be used with the doors on? not visible? what if you had them stick out further?

Just a follow-up: although the AutoZone mirrors are cheap and keep you legal, they vibrate badly and really aren't very usable at speed. I will likely be getting the Harley mirrors, unless there is a better solution.

I'm picturing those gigantic Ford mirrors on a JK...
