It is more expensive but well worth it. The Kuat NV this thing is awesome, will tilt down so you can still open your rear tailgate with bikes attached (to an extent) also can fold up against the rear tire when driving around so doesnt have to stick out, otherwise is a true 2" hitchmount. Has a arm to mount your bike onto by the frame so you can work on it on etc. Well worth it, I picked up mine for about $450, MSRP is $550, ebay has a few for $350 with free shipping. Thule is a great option to but I have yet to find one as sturdy and as well engineered as the Kuat.

Good thread here. I am getting a 2012 JK with max tow and I have a Thule T2 and the Northshore 4 bike rack. Both are great (as all of those listed above), I use them for different bikes). Will I need to get an extension so that the rack can fold up without hitting the spare? If so, where can I purchase a good one? When the racks are on it will be for driving to the trails... I appreciate the help.

I posted this above but here it is again. Also search THULE and you will find a ton of info.

Default Yakima Spare Tire Rack

Very happy with this rack, I carry a Santa Cruz Heckler and a Specialized Stumpjumper.

I think the model is "Spare Time" even bought one for my girlfriend this Christmas.

You won't need an extension with the northshore rack, there is multiple extension holes you can choose from. I have mine set halfway out and tons of clearance.

Advjeep - Looks great, I love that rack, it works well with the big bikes. I appreciate the help since I am trying to have everything ready to go when I get the Jeep and I can't check til I get it.

kntr - thanks for pointing the link out, I must have been looking at all the Jeeps and Bikes and missed that! I found what I needed.

Merry Christmas to all!

If you want to destroy your bike it's the best place to put it! I don't know alot about jeeps but have some experience with this! I would not even put my mt bike back there every nook and cranny on your bike will have this wonderful powder in it and you will actually feel it grinding away at your ride! On top is better, inside best!!

That is exactly why I bought this. 10-20 miles of bad roads is hard on the bikes on the back. Now I can haul 3 bikes inside and 4 on the back. My bike always goes inside.

I still have this old car. I bought it for mountain biking and driving back and forth to work. I paid $500 for it and have driven it 3 years. Home made $60 rack works great.

Had this for awhile but it was a pain to load bikes.
