Default Boot or No boot on 5100's

Ok, just put on my shocks bootless. It's fine with the Bilsteins? Will the shaft rust over time being open to the elements?

nope, boots actually retain water and mud/debris which will do more damage over time than leaving it the way you have it now.

X2 for same reason.

First thing I did was cut off the boots on mine before I put them in. Funny what you do to brand new gear like that...

I originally installed with boots on. Every time I flexed, the boots would slip off. Got tired of putting them back on and finally cut them off. Looks better anyway.

Boots off looks better and prevents the build up of dust/dirt in the boot.

Bilstein will not honor their warranty if you cut off the boots.

exactly what they said. boots are so 1980's and more times than not, they do more damage than help anything other than the way your shocks look.
