So it says they're not covered by the warrantee anyway if you take the vehicle offroad? so basically cutting the boot off won't matter if it's lifted since they will assume it goes offroad.

Bilsteins with boots..

I think the aluminum looks nice underneath there with all of the black, so the boots are useless.

I've been told that I could screw up a one car funeral procession, so truely I asked the question not to be a SmrtAzz, but to see if I missed something in the 6000 hours of research I did to order the Bilstiens. Should be here this weekend, might be a while until I can get it installed. NO boots for me

Default Thanks

Makes sense to remove the Boot, but can someone talk about normal maintenance on these shocks? Exposure to the elements would eventually cause rust is what I am thinking. Outside of the normal wash, removing dirt and drying, is anyone spraying WD40 on the lower portion of the shocks?

IMO and area, boots are a no no. They hold water, moisture and debris and can cause shock issues/squeaking/failure from rust and I don't like they way they look.

Had no idea. I noticed the other day my boots in the rear were popped off - tried to reset them but I guess now I'll just cut 'em off.

The shock shafts should be hard chrome plated and have the ability to resist rusting, the use of wd40 should not be required plus wd40 may deteriorate seals by allowing dust to collect on the shaft prematurely tearing the seals allowing the shocks to leak.
