Default Can c gussets wait??

So this is my 1st jeep and 1st lift. After months and months of research, I'm pretty sure I have everything I need to finally get started with my project.

Wanting to do it right the 1st time, I've waited and researched and have settled on a 2.5 lift, 35/1250/18s, shocks, gears, tire carrier, etc etc.

My question is, how soon are gussets and sleeves needed?? I do very light trails and some weekend beach driving. No rock crawling and mostly highway roads. With all the money I've spent on everything else, I was hoping to wait a little while before getting sleeves and gussets. But with my new wheel/tire combo weighing in at over 100 lbs, I'm alittle nervous. How long has everyone ran without gussets and sleeves with this combo?? Not looking to wait to long but just want to make sure I'm safe with all the new mods. Thanks for your help!!!

You'll be fine considering what you'll be using it for. I know guys that have never done them and have had 0 issues for years.

The simple answer is - no one can tell you.

Some people are ok with big tires and offroad use, and no strengthening. Others bend or shatter the housing on stock tires just hitting a curb or pothole. And some are even saying that their c's were bent when they drove it off the dealers lot.

The odds are good that you will be ok. But ...

I don't think that can be definitively answered. It's kind of like the 37's on Dana 30 question. You might be ok forever or you might not. Myself I have trusses, C's and Chromo Axles and 4.88's sitting on stock axles and tires. I chose to upgrade those parts in preparation for larger tires. Beadlocks are on order, then I will start ordering suspension components with tires being last. I think its easier to diagnose issues if you do things in phases as well. So as of know no problems. Next I will do the suspension on stock rims and tires and run that for a while insuring there is no vibes or mechanical issues. Then toss the tires and rims on. That way if I end up with any vibes its most likely tires/rims that need to be looked at.

I have built jeeps in the past and never did C's or axles or anything and it never imploded so you will probably be ok. I also have plenty of friends on 35's and 37's with no drivetrain upgrades and thus far no issues. It's really just a luck of the draw thing. Whatever you decide best of luck!

A lot of it has to do with skill/driving ability too. Some people like to just gun it and run it- and break stuff! Lol

For what your wanting to do I agree with above, you should be ok. if your doing sleeves and gussets wait till you install chromoly's. You only have to the do the work once, you have to removed the axles then anyways so its easier then, also install new balljoints when you do the gussets, the factory balljoints are junk and fail quickly with oversize tires, the added heat up the C's will further deteriorate the factory joints so installing a set of Synergy or USA Alloys is perfect timing.

Thank you guys!! I'm not a run it and gun it type guy. I drive 10 miles round trip everyday to work and unfortunately there aren't many place by me to take the jeep 'off road'. Some weekend beach driving is pretty much the extent of it. Just don't want to cause more damage by waiting. I plan on doing it just don't know how soon. Thanks for making me feel alittle better!!

Just to make you over-think it even more than you are already over-thinking it!
