Wrangler Rubicon,

Please tell us a few things - is this a JK rubicon D44 front axle that you broke? If so, how the heck did you do it? Are you running stock tires? I've seen D30s survive unnatural abuse with 37s at Moab and 21 Road - something is just not adding up here. The stock 07 Rubi D44 is supposed to have 32 spine chromoly shafts and runs larger u-joints than past models...pictures would be great!

Agree on the tacking - tons easier than getting the ears machined to accept full-circle clips and probably better. You didn't see any evidence of melted grease did you? I'm thinking you did just a tiny spot to avoid that...

we have a stock sahara at work too that this happened to in the snow, also our project jeep from Xtreme 4x4 just did the same thing....this has been happening a lot lately, we believe there is a flaw in the ESP traction system grabbing the brake to hard and 4low just breaks the shafts..

My friend, you have no idea what you're talking about,...

There are no changes to the axle shafts from 2003 to 2006, I've worked on them all, same part# same axles,....the inners are RUBICON specific and the outer stubs are the same as the TJ D30's as are the hubs, knuckels, balljoints, inner C, etc...

I haven't played with a JK but have a hard time believing there is no retaining clip (inner nylon or metal outer c)

I am talking about the Snap rings they put in the yoke after the U-Joint is in to hold in each individual Cap.

Holy conflicting info Batman. Here are a couple pics of my 07 JK Rubi U-joints. Looks like there is a half circ clip on the inside....

Trust me they start with them but they don't put them in the yoke, they go into grooves on the caps to keep the cap from sliding out.
