Oh its a waste of money and you will hydrolock your engine.

Personally I would spend my money of stuff that really makes a difference.

I say go for a CAI, but just be careful in water.

I wish there was a puddle or something and the $500 i had to drop into the insurance co. could have gone some where else.. not many people believe me but hey.. Im still looking for a solution to my intake Im not a fan of the snorkel look on a basically stock Jeep but if i was able to hydro lock on a stock intake an CIA would be disastrous for me...

A Jeep is a better anchor than a watercraft, get the cai and hammer down. Ok, now you guys can give it to me.

If there are performance gains in terms of additional ft-lbs or HP, they are very minimal. Based on a simple test of one brand, I found it does improve throttle response (although there is a faction here with 6-spds that considers that to be a negative factor).

I don't think you can argue that the risk of hydrolocking is increased no matter how much you like the appearance and sound of the CAI.

I wouldnt waste your time...the factory really does there homework on where to place the intake for the most amount of cool air and least amount of water intrusion... besides you own a jeep and it loves to play in mud and water, I would go for a snorkle...here in AZ the cooler air is way above the pavement which can reach up to 160F. Just my opinion. Good luck.

Default CAI - No way

The slight gain is not worth the risk! I hydrolocked in about a foot of water. You'll never know when you are going to have to cross some water. I was alone when it happened to me and opted for speed and momentum over going slow and risking getting stuck. Got stuck anyway! It has something to do with the layout of the engine bay and how water gets deflected towards the intake, it has nothing to do with depth.

I agree. After just a couple of days of driving around in local rain drenched streets, I ended up with debris (a few leaves and dirt) on top of the cowling which is not far and eye level with the air intake.

I wasn't looking for puddles or streams, but I wasn't avoiding them either.

I have a AirRaid and to be honest the motor came alive. Runs much better.

No, they dropped the ball on this airbox intake. Just as many people on here have hydrolocked with the stock airbox as cai's. Part of the problem is that the serpentine belt throws water directly across the underside of the hood into the opening of the stock airbox and right on top of cai's. Unless you do what I did and block the throw of water off the serpentine belt. I blocked in the front of the cai aswell.
