Cold air intake!!!!!!!
I still have stock in mine and have run it through some very deep water....on at least 10 different occasions have run through water that came over the hood and I never had a problem. Reading all of this makes me think I am lucky and should probably get a snorkel! I take the attitude that this is a Jeep not a sports car so I do not care about faster take off or even noise for that matter. However, on at least two different trail rides, when we were NOT looking for water, we found it! My thought is get a snorkel, seal those holes and roll on!
I have the Banks Ram air, the way its designed seems to reduce the chances of water coming from belt splash inside the engine compartment, however I have added some hard foam in the small gap between the side of the radiator and the banks box to prevent any splash (or hot air) entering from the engine side.
Since adding the Banks and the Jet Stage 1 I am getting around 17.5 (mostly town driving) - up from 15.9mpg. It seems more responsive and the noise irritates the hell out of my wife (a big plus as she then leaves MY jeep alone), the kids however love the sound (as does dad :-) ). Consumption is slowly improving as she gets run in (now has 2800miles) so some of the gain could be things loosening up inside.

I've heard the aFe Stage 2 Si system is supposed to be pretty good, its one of the more enclosed intakes like Volant, S&B, Banks Ram Air etc. which might give you a little piece of mind when it comes to water.

i know this may be a repeatative post but im to lazy to read them all...
but i have a K&N CIN on my 2005 unlimited. and i saw a rise in mpg 1 in city and 2 more on the hightway. it gives my jeep a more manly tone that can be saw as annoying to some. but over all i am more than pleased with the preformance and more power in a jeep is always nice.
as long as you dont try any extreamly deep watter crossing in your jeep you will be fine though.

Well, I was all set to order a CAI before I started reading this thread.
I live in Seattle, where as you probably know, we get a ton of rain. At least half the year I'm driving through standing water, large puddles, etc around town and on the freeways. In fact, I usually blast through large puddles sending water up onto and over the hood just for fun.
So what we're saying here, is not only should I not get a CAI, but I should be more cautious with my JK driving through significant puddles and wet conditions even with the stock box??? I just assumed my JK was tough enough to survive water with the exception of water crossings.
Should I be doing some simple mods to my stock box?
If fact, I don't remember the last time I drove on dry pavement up here in Seattle!

I have an Airaid, it has splash guards on the bottom and basically 2 sides. I fabed another spash guard for the front outta roof flashing. Originally cut a piece of rear fenderwell liner and stuck in there. I sealed the bottom and edges with silicone leaving a small spot for drainage if water got in. If you look at the pic, you'll see I put a couple layers of pipe insulation around the edge of the box, this seals it from the water thrown off the serpentine belt. If you look under your hood and see a water /dirt line across it, on mine it stops where the pipe insulation is. Before it went all the way across. I also have a pre-filter sock on the airaid which is water resistent. I do take it slow on water crossing, but have hit fairly deep holes at speed, afterwards checking the Airaid, no water drops on it at all.

btw - i hyrdolocked my motor, but thanks to insurance they covered 100%.

Sorry you window blocked your engine. You were just unlucky. Here if you do hurt your engine, tow your Jeep back home and put the factory intake back on. Then have it towed to the dealership and walk in with a pissed off look on your face.
That should work! Or just leave your JK stock and never ask anyone of us our opinions!
