Yes sir it is a lot of work, very tedious work that needs to be perfect or else it can explode, which could be catastrophic on the highway..
That's why a lot of mechanics won't dabble in gears..

After reading though it, decide if you think that spending a little more time and getting it right might just be a bit more preferable than a mechanic who does it quick, slaps them together, and then they seize or start chewing themselves to bits or whatever.

Wow, that was a lot to swallow in one read. Great to know info, not that I would attempt it but gives one a better appreciation on what it takes to get it done.
