Default Is the Dana 30 strong enough to support 35's?

Will the Dana 30 be any less capable with the appropriate gearing then a Dana 44?

Thanks,
Jacob

With EVO gussetts, chromemoly shafts, trusses and a good locker, it will handle 35s fine. I wouldn't go any bigger, though.

x2

others are throwing them on without...but I wouldn't reccomend it, search the forum you'll find people are finding strength issues with these stock axels

Thanks guys, I am still trying to figure out Rubi vs X... and you guys are certainly helping me figure it out.

Seems like I just need to take a hit and pay the bigger bucks for the Rubicon... I hope to have this jeep for a long time, and I will be lifting it and putting bigger tires on.. I will end up regearing it... and though I probably won't be rockcrawling.... I do drive really hard, and I like to do doughnuts, and fishtail in the snow and mud, gravel etc...

thanks again,
Jacob

I have been running 35's on my stock 30 with 5.13's and a locker for about a year now without any problems, bending breaking. I would not go 37's though.

Now I just went to Offroad Evolution and had then weld the gussests and skids to give it some strength just in case.

I will also be up grading to CM shafts soon, but so far so good.

Again one year with stock shafts and some hard wheeling without a problem....

As far as gusseting the axle and C's, a rubicon front axle has the same strength issues as the D30. The front D44 in a rubicon is only half a D44. The 3rd member has D44 gears and carrier. But past that its a D30.

So if you go with a Rubicon, I would still plan on upgrading the front axle with all least C gussets.

I have been running 35s on my D30 for about a year. So far so good. I have Evo C2 gussets, but they are still sitting in a box and I can't afford cromo shafts yet, so I hope things keep going like they are.

good point...

I think lots of people have managed to get away with tossing bigger tires on, but without taking care of the axels by beefing them up I believe it's only a matter of time before the leverage takes over especially on the passengers side with the extra length on that tube
